As a PC gamer, I'm ashamed to admit it...but I have never finished the Half Life series. I recently purchased the Orange Box on Steam (during the thanksgiving special for like $7.50) and I've committed myself to finish the entire series. I intend to mine the game for info not currently included in the respective wiki pages and update them accordingly. I'm planning for an awesome experience. I'll periodically update this space with impressions.

Same here. I couldn't get past some underground tunnel, I didn't know where to go and the walkthroughs were no help. Also the gameplay is so archaic compared to half life 2, can't wait for the remake.
"6 years between a sequel will do that to a game. When was the last time they updated? Their twitter account has been dead for almost a year now.Same here. This thread makes me sad. I, for one, think the original Half-life actually holds up really well.
For reference, I first played Half-life 1 in 2006 AFTER I had played and completed Half-life 2. To me the pacing seems way better in the first game, which is why I've completed it about 5 times and why I find it very hard to replay Half-life 2 past the damned Highway 17 section.
Fucking hated the original Half-Life. Basically for the reasons why everyone hates Half-Life 2.
But I love Half-Life 2.
@TooWalrus: lol
Yeah, I couldn't get through the first Half-Life either. I've played Half-Life 2 and it's expansions multiple times though.
I have literally started about 10 times, and never get more then 7 hours in. The gameplay still holds up, and the graphics aren't horrible, it is just that the difficulty is so spotty. The marines are fucking aimbots, if you make a single noise they just kammakazi you until you are dead.
The only two I have yet to finish is the original and Episode 2. Ep 2 I'm damn close to the end, and already know the story so I haven't had the drive to quite finish it off, and the original is a funny story...
I think I've tried to finish it about 10 times, usually I loose my save changing computers or whatnot. Anyway, the last two times I played I got incredibly far, lost my save, then tried to warp to that level and give myself the HEV suit so I could keep going and, well, the game wouldn't have any of that. And as such I wouldn't have any of it.
I cannot understand anyone not getting through Halflife on normal. My skills are subpar campared to many younger ppl., but I slogged through about 3 years ago, again. The few real sticky parts were getting to Xen, and the boss fight. Theres plenty of hard points, like the scratching pecking wierdo neck-chickens and the marines sometimes, but you get through e'm. I enjoyed fighting the marines...
I think if you haven't finished Half-Life 1 yet, then you should probably go ahead and wait for Black Mesa to come out.
" If Black Mesa is out by then would you finish Black Mesa first or Half Life 3 (rumor has it they'll be coming out together)? "Where did you hear that rumor?
" @Heli0s said:I can't remember the exact reference, but a blog post here on Giant Bomb makes a pretty logical case for the idea of a dual release. But who knows?" Wow. So many people haven't finished the original Half Life... newbies? Eh, Half Life's a quality series, but it's not necessarily fun anymore and if they make a new Half Life it needs to have a more modern feel to it. The only thing I really ever enjoyed about the original Half Life was the intro, the fact it's the predecessor to Half Life 2, and Black Mesa still has a good atmosphere, I just wish you had a funner time there. All I need to beat is Blue Shift someday, then everything Half Life so far I've played and beat.
