Anyone think this level is up there with the resident evils or the silent hills of this world for sheer spookiness. Well, obviously the first time you play it.
Half-Life 2

Several years after the Black Mesa disaster, Gordon Freeman awakens from stasis to aid a resistance movement against the Combine, a collective of trans-dimensional aliens that have conquered Earth.
Ravenholm
I didn't think it was too creepy wile playing it on the Orange Box. The best part of the game though... from what I played - I only borrowed it from a friend.
It is very unnerving, the visuals, music, and everything made me very on edge through the entire thing.
Well Left4Dead really isn't as horror based as people think it is,besides the fact that there are zombies, its basically a super fast paced co-op fps with tons of enemies on you at once. They aren't really aiming for horror ,I'm sure it can have a few unexpected moments but other than that it just looks like a fucking blast.
i thought ravenholm was the worst level in the game and not spooky at all.
I liked the intro the most really, if you'd count that (where you get your gravity gun and meet DOG)
"Ravenholm felt like an entirely different game to me."Me too, it felt almost out of place. For me it's all about Father Grigori. He's a fantastic character, and makes the level interesting. Without him it's a bit of a strange digression, and in terms of being spooky, outside the fear of poison headcrabs it wasn't really there for me.
"Ravenholm is probably my favorite part of the game. There are just so many cool ways to kill zombies, and since zombies aren't really an immediate threat, you can look around for the coolest way to kill them. I personally liked paint buckets :PThat's what I loved about that level. Looking around for a saw blade or a barrel to throw. Then those super tough head crabs.
"
A great example of quality level design.
I almost think that it didn't quite fit with whole Half Life 2 theme or whatever. It was alright but it just didn't seem to flow.
Actually I wasn't very scared or even into that part of the game, Half Life "zombies" aren't exactly menacing. I guess the ones that can run fast and jump are but it's fairly easy to speed run the part they are in.
Interesting to hear people's various responses to this topic. I found Ravenholm really creepy myself and got totally freaked out when coming against the super-fast zombies - at least when they were unexpected. The gravity gun stuff with the saw blades and explosive cylinders was good fun but the atmosphere really got to me and I actually wanted the whole experience to end as soon as possible. I agree with some others here that that level would probably restrain me from replaying HL2.
I hated Ravenholm. I don't really know why, but it wasn't nearly as fun as the other areas of the game.
