Half-Life Turns 10; I Feel Old
In a cheeky nod to the game's year of release, Valve is celebrating the occasion by marking down the original Half-Life to the scandalously low price of 98 cents on Steam. However, it's a limited-time offer, and today is your last day to get in on this ridiculous bargain. I have serious doubts about the playability of the original Half-Life in this day and age, but 98 cents is a small price to pay to revisit such a watershed moment in video games.

I'm not into the series and so the anniversary doesn't make much of an impact on me, I'm also only 16. But I get what you mean. For me? I'll feel old when Halo turns 10...
I missed the dialog when the scientist tells you how to do that extra long jump thing, so when i got to xen i kept dying when trying to jump from platform to platform, over and over and over.......still love that game, but what was up with the crazy fast ninja gun ladies in the later part of it?!
"10 years??? How can that be...I think that time was spent waiting for Half-Life 2.
What happened to all the time in between?"
Oh it still plays beautifully. I replayed the original a couple years back, and I still enjoyed it as the first day I played it. Man those marines are still some of the smartest AI enemies in a game.
I play it today and still have more fun with it than any FPS game launched since.
Worst end boss ever though lol.
Congrats Half-Life on ten years!
Sadly, I only joined the Half-Life phenomenon when Half-Life 2 came out for Xbox 360 in the Orange Box, but it quickly became one of my favorite FPS games. Seeing as my computer still remains ASS and inable to play anything at all, I suppose I'll celebrate Half-Life's ten years by playing more of Valve's newest game, Left 4 Dead.
AWAY!
"Oh it still plays beautifully. I replayed the original a couple years back, and I still enjoyed it as the first day I played it. Man those marines are still some of the smartest AI enemies in a game."Totally. I was kinda disappointed by the CP in Half-Life 2 compared to them.
Yeah were have I been these past 10 years, was I doing drugs when I was 9 years old.
98 cents is a steal. I think the game could hold up just missing some stuff in todays day and age. Graphics and animations, that its. The gameplay is still fucking solid as well as weapons and puzzles. Though I never got why people hated Xen. It totally changed up the pacing and feel of the game at the right time and gave you this great feeling, like alright, all this shit i have done was to get one chance to fuck up these aliens from the inside out.
Wow I was 14 when this came out, I remember getting it for Christmas here in the UK at the time I didn't realise how much of a classic it would turn into, Half Life 2 just turned 4 years old already. I remember booking a week off work to play it all the way through
Half-Life is classic and still plays incredibly well. Sadly, when Valve released Half-Life: Source, there just wasn't much Source to it...which was upsetting.
I didn't need any more reminders Ryan. As far as I can remember, I didn't think Xen was bad. Maybe, I was just good at jumps.
Thanks for the heads-up! I just signed up for steam and bought half-life for 98 cents! Can't find a much better deal than that!
Damn Ryan, Half Life is still very playable, I played through it not a month ago! And enjoyed too... well, until Xen, or at least the bit with the big baby-splitted head... thing
I wouldn't have felt so old if it wasn't for the fact, thinking back, I had already finished Uni and started the job I'm still in at the time! Given HL is an FPS, and in general they age really quickly it still survives well, although last time i played the original is was the Source Engine based version.. not sure if that's the one they are offering for the $0.98... bring on HL3, or Episode 3.. or anything with The Freeman!
