Where can I get a copy of this F'ing game?
Steam, or you can find a crappy PS2 version that is total crap at Gamestop and when you bring it home it doesn't play on the machine and then you promise yourself to never buy a used game ever again because you gave them another chance with this game after the same thing happened with Fable, but now that Half Life doesn't work it's the last straw. Like me.
I thought this was a joke when I saw the forum... I can only imagine the OP wants a physical copy of the game, if so, Amazon.com on the used section might throw some luck your way.
" http://store.steampowered.com/ "This. My PC can and it's pretty shite. Half Life 1 anthology £8.99 Half Life, Blue Shift, Opposing Force and Team Fortress Classic. GO!
" Ah man, I feel sorry for the OP. I recall when they we're selling the original Half-Life for like $1.00 or something, I recall it being a special deal, sometime last year. "98¢ for 2 days after its 10th anniversary.
I just looked at the Amazon US link posted above and it says minmum $40 for GOTY? And the "featured seller" list as $140? (Though admittadly the used (so not useable on steam) copy's are cheaper). That dosent make any sense to me, especially since you can get it on steam. Relative to most other games on steam HL is a pretty small download (though of course there are smaller) so if you can go on amazon to order it then it probably isnt that much of an issue for most people to wait on a download, compared to the time it takes to way on shipping. Though of course there are some circumstances where it dosent make sense (like no internet at home so you at a lan Cafe or something) but to pay that much for half life at this point? The game is awesome but I couldent see myself paying that price for it nowadays.
Though as a side note, when I started using steam I put my (standard edition, non GOTY) CD-key for Half Life into it and got access to HL, Opposing Force, Blue Shift, Counter Strike, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress Classic and a couple of other mods. If they are selling the other stuff on steam (which they seem to) and have larger packes with HL and other GoldSrc engine games then should I have gotten all that stuff extra with it (though I already had it on disk of course just hadent put in the codes). Though thats another issue.
I believe that not all of those extras had CD-Keys. Because of this, Valve had no simply way to give you access to those expansions you had already bought. So rather than hold out, they simply gave everyone who had a valid Half-Life CD-Key access to all the expansions. Pretty nice of them.Though as a side note, when I started using steam I put my (standard edition, non GOTY) CD-key for Half Life into it and got access to HL, Opposing Force, Blue Shift, Counter Strike, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress Classic and a couple of other mods. " @Pazy said:That is pretty nice of them I just wish they had told me lol it felt like there was an error (though of course I didnt report free stuff lol). Does this only affect CD-keys or also when you buy HL off of Steam?I believe that not all of those extras had CD-Keys. Picked it up on Steam. I have to say I'm very very pleased so far. Valve knows what the fuck they are doing.
" Picked it up on Steam. I have to say I'm very very pleased so far. Valve knows what the fuck they are doing. "How do you feel it holds up compared to current shooters now or dare I say, HL2 (if you've played it, but I doubt it since you would have already known that Valve knows WHAT THE FUCK THEY ARE DOING!!!)
Popular shooters now have nothing on it. Continually, I have to think around problems and puzzles that I haven't experienced in shooters in stores now days. It's more than just mindless gun play, which should be applauded. Half-Life is just as much a puzzle driven action game as it is a shooter. Nice change of pace from the linear, thoughtless garbage out there now.
" @joey: Thanks, this is probably my best bet. I hope my garbage of a PC can run it. "It's a game from 1998, I would hope your computer can run it.
