A location or scenery that is reminiscent of fall. Autumnal settings involve trees shedding their leaves and usually feature yellows, browns and reds.
Games that, in some way, react to the player's birthday; this can range from simply displaying a 'happy birthday' message to conferring certain gameplay benefits.
In many RPGs, especially those made in Japan, magic is categorized as black or white. Black magic spells deal damage or inflict negative effects.
A Christian holiday widely celebrated in the western world. It is often associated with festive spirit and presents.
Cults don't necessarily have to be evil or out to destroy the world, but in video games it's usually safe to assume so.
One or more events from someone's past that negatively affected them. Plenty of video game characters have such pasts.
Demons are generally creatures of evil, usually from Hell, who are often totally untrustworthy even when they're not murdering everyone and destroying everything in their path.
Given that Hell totally sucks, it's not surprising that Demons are semi-constantly trying to get from there to Earth.
Frankenstein's monster is the creature inspired by the Mary Shelley novel, Frankenstein. Usually creatures inspired by this theme are made from different body parts and almost always have bolts through their necks. They're usually naive and destructive.
Magical creatures made of stone, resembling the grotesque statues commonly part of Gothic architecture such as the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.
These spooky entities are the spirits of the dead, returned from beyond their graves for generally sinister purposes. There's generally about even odds whether a particular ghost will be helpful or malevolent towards the living, but some ghosts just want to be left alone entirely.
A game that has holiday themes was either initially designed as a game for a holiday, or one that has holiday elements in a level, or as an additional unlockable feature, either through the use of the system clock, or an additional download.
A special day named after a specific event. It is usually a celebration of something or someone and does often involve festivities and cake.
The concept of affecting the universe through supernatural methods, breaking the fundamental laws of science.
Mummies are lumbering undead corpses wrapped in bandages. They are often associated with ancient Egypt and may have magical powers or be immortal.
Necromancers are spell casters who specializes in conjuring and controlling the undead.
By definition, a pirate is a (mostly naval) robber without commission from a sovereign nation. While maritime robbery has been around since ancient times, Piracy had its highpoint during the 17th century. They are easily identified by the "Jolly Roger", which is the traditional name of the famous skull flag.
Worship of the devil or devil-like deities such as Diablo. Satanism is often associated with the sybol known as the pentagram and arcane rituals.
Souls are the spiritual essence of living things.
A dance made famous by Michael Jackson in the music video for "Thriller."
The Undead is an umbrella term describing creatures that do not exhibit the key fundamental attributes that are associated with life, such as respiration, and blood circulation. They are divided into two main categories: Ethereal and Corporeal, depending on whether or not they have a body.
Pirates who are also undead.
Vampires are undead, nocturnal creatures that subsist on blood. They have superhuman powers and are sometimes able to shape-shift. They are weak against sunlight, foreign objects stuck in and left in their hearts, decapitation and sometimes holy water and crosses.
Werewolves are humans that can shapeshift into wolves or wolf-like creatures. They often have strength and senses that surpasses those of both humans and wolves.
Witches are women who can perform magic. There can be good witches and bad witches.
Zombies, more accurately called the walking dead, are reanimated corpses who feed on the living, and have become a ubiquitous video game enemy. They often move slowly, but can be deadly in large numbers, which is unfortunately how they tend to travel. Shotgun time!
