I don't like how it has Halo 3 in the title and takes place before Halo 3. Seeing as how they said this will not be a new franchise and is the only time their doing this and it is not an expansion they should just call it Halo: Recon. If it has Halo 3 in the title I think it should at least take place during the events of Halo 3.

It probably would make more sense if it was called Halo: Recon, considering the setting and subject matter. Fair enough.

I'm hoping it does just become Halo: Recon at some point because with it being 2 years after the fact, the connection seems rather tenuous. Even if it is just a straight up expansion pack.

I think this is because it's using the Halo 3 engine, and should not be considered a full game (the impression they're giving is that it will definitely not be as long as Halo 3).

I agree, Halo: Recon would have been better. Then again, it uses the same engine as Halo 3 and is viewed as an expansion by Bungie. They mentioned Frozen Throne.

it is Halo 3 in the way that it is narrative that takes place after Halo 2. The multiplayer part of Halo3: Recon is Halo3 multiplayer, you are the master chief (or covenant Elite). The maps you played in the 2007 Halo 3 multiplayer will be in there too. That is what makes it Halo 3 ...

The story campaign is something new, but even if it happens to be on a disc, it is an epansion, just probably a bigger one since they have the space for it.
One more thing, when you think about it , having Halo 3 (2007-disc) getting the Heroic map pack, the Legendary map pack, and the eventual Mythic map pack... and then downloading a campaign expansion that also has new multiplayer maps... That would make anybody having a 20GB HDD cry for missing space for that content.

Maybe all the map packs (Halo3-2007, heroic, legendary, mythic plus recon multiplayer maps) will be on the disc as well has the RECON campaign ...

Actually, it apparently does have actual relation to Halo 3, not just the story. Bungie says it's going to carry the Mythic Map Pack that's going to be released in Winter next year, which is also supposed to work with Halo 3. That means that there will probably be some cross-game multiplayer going on.
