Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn - Part 5

I just finished watching it, that was pretty emotional, still a little choked up.

Edit: Hunters are massive, I love the sounds they are making while the cadets are running away from them and the Master Chief, they sound so titanic, and terrifying.

Well, I think they did a really good job with the whole thing. Including Fred and Kelly at the end was cool as well.

If I can't have a proper Halo film, this'll do.

The last 5 minutes were amazing. Overall, the series was pretty damn great. Way, way, waaay better then I expected.

The part where Kelly and Fred take off their helmets is beyond words for me, I had tears in my eyes at that part. They looked amazing, I loved their eyes.

Was this the last episode?

I've been waiting to watch it all in a single sitting...

#7 Posted by big_jon (5174 posts) - 7 months, 16 days ago

@GetEveryone: Yes indeed.

#8 Posted by Cronus42 (247 posts) - 7 months, 16 days ago

Well shit. Every episode just got better than I ever expected it could be. Honestly incredible, really proves how powerful the fiction is if treated right. Maybe a movie can be done.

@GetEveryone: You sir are in for one hell of a ride.

Man, this whole series was WAY better than I thought it was going to be. Usually when I hear web series my initial reaction is "oh boy here we go" but this... this was something special.

@big_jon: are those two important characters in Halo?

They have been in the books for some time, they were part of Master Chiefs Blue team, and they were his closest friends. They were literally the first two kids he met when he was abducted by ONI.

The series was pretty good.

#13 Posted by supamon (998 posts) - 7 months, 16 days ago

Yeah!!! Finally! Now I can watch the whole thing in 1 shot. Been holding off till the series was complete.

Aha no grunts. I knew they were never going to try and make them fit with that kind of drama.

Yup, Linda, Kelly and Fred and Team Black are the last remaining SPARTAN-IIs, along with the Chief. Other Spartans don't even come close in terms of power & augmentation.

My evening is planned: I shall buy beers and pizza and thoroughly piss off my girlfriend by watching this beast in its entirety.

Can't wait!

I liked the part where Fred and Kelly looked at Chief after they took their helmets off. Good little joke there.

I also liked the look on the cadets' faces after they took them off, since they were evidently under the impression in the last episode that Chief was a robot.

Only low point for me, was the full shot of the Hunter - looked pretty fake. The CGI budget restraints of doing a "web series" reared their ugly head a bit there. Still, this whole series has been great, and should really put the pressure back on a major studio to do a proper movie. 343 just proved it can be done, if you care enough.

It was really good, like all the other episodes. I still think the third episode was the best of the bunch. A good Halo film is possible, the series has shown this, but even if a major studio did get hold of it I really doubt this is the kind of thing they would make. Overall a good mix of emotion and action, and put a lot of proper TV to shame.

Little nitpick that will probably sound a little blasphemous to the Halo hardcore... The gold visor on Master Chief looks fine in the games, but just looks like cheap plastic when in live action. a really minor thing considering how much of it was bathed in darkness, but bothered me every time there was a close-up.

This series was great. The way it was written reminded me a bit of Battlestar Galactica, but definitely more focused and definitely less philosophical. I got choked up a bit when they showed that last vid from Laskey's brother. Something about that hit home and reminded me of the letters my friend would send home from Iraq during Op: Iraqui Freedom. The letters started out so conversational, and they just got more grim as time went on. Those writers know their stuff.

OH, I forgot it was out. Gonna watch it and get back at this topic in about an hour.

I enjoyed the series overall, but some of the dialogue was subpar.

Loved it. Can't wait for tuesday. And to think I almost had Halo 4 today. This makes it even worse to wait!

#25 Posted by big_jon (5174 posts) - 7 months, 16 days ago

@GunstarRed: I agree that the 3rd was the best.

#26 Posted by isomeri (742 posts) - 7 months, 16 days ago

I really liked the entire "series".

man that whole scene where they take their helmets off is sooooo badass, makes me wanna learn more about the whole spartan story, you know how they become spartans and such. Any good suggestions for that? like what books should i read for that?

Just read all the Eric Nylund books. The web-series and the games take liberties with the continuity set up from the books, but they mostly fall in line with each other.

Yeah, some stores in a nearby town were selling it. Counterguy told me to show him a receipt from one of those stores so I did that (forums ftw!) and at the last second he backed down.

Which is understandable, but his big fucking smile and taunting words weren't. Bit of a shame on the whole experience, be a man about it and just tell me HQ won't let him and he's in trouble if he does. Instead he was grinning like a maniac and tripping over his words to not sell me a copy.

So yeah, almost!

Favorite episode is still Episode 3 but damn that was a solid ending. The Chief's voice acting aside, this series has been incredibly surprising. I almost don't want a movie but rather, more short series like this. Hell, maybe even a TV show! A Halo: Landfall-esqe ODST show will blow me away, will blow everyone away. Make it happen, Microsoft!

#34 Posted by Venatio (4435 posts) - 7 months, 13 days ago

I loved the entire series and I would really like a full blown TV show

The BSG vibe it gave off was great

#35 Posted by TheFreeMan (2689 posts) - 7 months, 13 days ago

Seeing the girl take a needler shot to the gut was pretty heavy. Getting shot would fucking hurt, I imagine, but a five inch piece of rock getting stuck in you sounds pretty nightmarish and that scene made the idea of the needler a helluva lot more scary. Sad to see her go.

Pretty impressed. I wasn't expecting much of anything from this whole thing. It was kinda cheesy (slow-motion explosions all the time, baby), and some of the dialogue was a little weird, but overall it inspired some faith in the idea of an actual live-action Halo movie.

#36 Edited by big_jon (5174 posts) - 7 months, 13 days ago

@TheFreeMan: In the fourth episode if you watch closely you see the Colonel getting hit with a needler chain reaction near the beginning, pretty gross.
