Guess you won't be getting any more review copies from them, huh?

What are you trying to say?

Cool

How did you get this picture and how do we know it's from Giantbomb?

EDIT: So looking through your recent comments reveals that you post a whole lot of inflammatory, snarky comments, the kind that you see under Youtube videos. You don't have much productive to say, do you?

#5 Posted by CaLe (3911 posts) -

This can't be real.

#6 Posted by dandead (170 posts) -

To my knowlage GB did not receive a free Halo limited edition xbox, just the game. Not sure if they (the PR team brhind the letter) would try to force this on everyone but if this letter is legit this is super shady reguardless for that PR team.

#7 Posted by AlexanderSheen (4929 posts) -

Quick! Change the review score!

...

If they don't get a copy of the game, they just go and buy one. They doing that for years now. There is nothing new in here.

I really hope thats fake

Cool fake PR letter, bro.

#11 Posted by Kerned (1169 posts) -

I wouldn't be surprised if that letter is real; a lot of sites out there have zero integrity and would absolutely agree to something like that. Giant Bomb is not one of those sites. Guaranteed.

I can tell it's fake due to lack of Mt.Dew and Doritos logos.

Holy hell, that doesn't look like it was created in Microsoft Word 95 in a minute, at all. Next time - don't think it's convincing because you took a "real-life" photo of it. We all know you're trying to obscure the quality like the rest of the internet and it won't work.

Halo is the kind of franchise that people get behind because it's a great set of games. 343 studios knows what they are doing, and from the impressions, Giantbomb gave them a completely fair score. I don't understand why everyone thinks that games have to hit 5/5, 10/10, or the maximum of some imaginary score for it to be considered successful. I would have given all of the Halo games (besides CE) a 4/5, because inherently they were flawed. However, I enjoyed the living hell out of all of them (besides ODST).

Try again some other time. I also did my research on your past topics like

Oh no, what a bunch of corrupt, morally-devoid monsters. Guess I'd better not buy Halo 4 now, right?

Haven't they already reviewed the game, though? And didn't Jeff give it a favorable score?

If they were giving away 360s with the review copy, you would have heard about it by now. Especially with all of the games journalism talk lately.

Just did the same thing, and looking through the first couple pages, you seem to hate all video games ever, and do nothing but post juvenile, flaming, trolling shit. Also yea, this is mad fake. If you look around at other sites with a good relationship with 343, they have reviews up too, and the embargo was well known to end this week. If you're gonna post this shit, do it somewhere else, we don't want it.

EDIT: Something else occurred to me, if any company ever tried to demand a score from reviewers, especially the guys at GB and other big trustworthy names in the business it would get out. I am sure that (if real) they would be happy to give up early access to a game to out anything like this.

So seriously, go take your shitty troll somewhere else. Thanks for wasting my time.

Forget that. Show me your piles of Mountain Dew and Doritos. Then I'll believe you!

Eh... I'll give troll attempt a B+ purely for the effort.

#29 Posted by Scotto (1171 posts) -

If any company really sent out letters saying that giving less than a 9.5 was grounds for termination of early access to their products, it would a) be a massive story all across the internet, and b) they would be a laughingstock all across the internet. No game publisher would send a letter with such an insane, brazen request physically spelled out like that.

1) TriplePoint is not the PR firm Microsoft uses for their games.

2) I have been reviewing video games for a variety of outlets for years now, which has included getting many copies of pre-release games. Not once have I ever even been asked to sign a "contract" like is being mentioned. I have also never, ever seen a cover letter that says, "Congratulations! Your website has been chosen ..." Everything is very professional. Cover letters say, "Hey, here's the game. Here's what time the embargo lifts. Here's when multiplayer sessions are. Let us know if you have questions."

3) I reviewed Halo 4. To do so, I had an early copy. It was a standard edition of the game (though I do know at least one other critic got a Limited Edition copy, but they were for a much larger outlet), and there wasn't anything even remotely like the letter shown in this picture.

So... In the event that this letter is a real thing that somebody, somewhere got, I would imagine it was some form of non-professional blogger/YouTube personality. Because those of us who review games on a regular basis got nothing like this.

But like I said, TriplePoint is not who I have ever gone through for Xbox-related stuff, so I'm immediately doubtful based on that alone.

tl;dr, that letter is fake, yo. Or at the very least, it is in no way whatsoever affiliated with copies of Halo 4 that went out to critics you generally read (I.E., those at GameSpot, Polygon, Destructoid, etc.).

Someone who thinks that the widespread extremely high scores for Halo 4 are clear evidence of the industry being paid off on a massive scale. Or someone just trying to make a snarky joke about it.

that is not related to Giantbomb . Also seriously why are you trying to start shit? On this weeks bombcast the crew did a pretty fucking amazing job explaining their stance on this sort of thing.

Yeah. Not buying the fact that MS would use huge, red, Times New Roman font on anything that they send out ever. Also, why would this not be posted on letterhead instead of putting a giant Halo 4 across the top? If MS were to bribe someone, they wouldn't put it in writing. They have dealt with enough bad PR to know better.

EDIT: Also, putting "As you're aware, as per your signing" on anything is completely horrid grammatically by any standard.

#40 Posted by big_jon (5709 posts) -

Fake as nuts.

#41 Posted by Fallen189 (4940 posts) -

Kotaku got a free Halo 4 360 and Collectors Edition of the game. They had an unboxing video.

#43 Posted by Lukeweizer (2607 posts) -

I think this is the kind of stuff that they were talking about on this week's Bombcast. It's crazy that a company will try to give out free shit like systems with these kind of stipulations (a breach of contract for giving it less than a 9.5?), but it's crazier that someone would agree to it.

#44 Posted by kerse (2100 posts) -
@algertman

I can tell it's fake due to lack of Mt.Dew and Doritos logos.

#45 Posted by Hunkulese (2642 posts) -

Your letter is poorly worded and if you follow the letter and the missing word is guidelines then the letter asks you to sell the game early, publish a review early and give it a sub 9.5 score. You forgot the negation word.

#46 Posted by TheHumanDove (2523 posts) -

It's the glorious loophole of a 5 point rate system! It's impossible to give out a 9.5 out of 5!

Also most likely fake

#48 Posted by big_jon (5709 posts) -

@TheHumanDove: 4.75.

Giantbomb should really start reviewing like IGN on a % scale, I mean there's a big difference between a 9.5, and a 9.6, that could be a whole bunch more graffix!

#49 Posted by triclops41 (24 posts) -

have your mom proofread these hoaxes before you try them.

Fuck that, bring back the old Gamespot scoring system or bust.

How can I properly enjoy Halo 4 if I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE REVIEWER'S TILT IS??????
