nxe optimum res has vert + horizontal bars

halo: combat evolved on optimal resolution has both vertical black bars and horizontal black bars. What the hell. What if I played 4 players on halo 3, will the optimum resolution still show horzontal bars.

Oh and my tv is a 1680x1050. Can somebody help me.

I imagine the game doesn't support 16:10 resolutions, only 16:9 or 4:3. So even though the dashboard and stuff does (now , older games are out of luck.
