#1 Posted by YoungFrey (1209 posts) - 2 years, 9 months ago

The specifics on the Reach avatar awards are out.

Carter's Helmet - Clear a Campaign mission on Legendary without dying.
Emile's Helmet - Earn a Bulltrue medal in either multiplayer or Firefight Matchmaking.
Jorge's Helmet - Earn a Killtacular in multiplayer Matchmaking.
Jun's Helmet - Kill 100 enemies in a row without dying in either the Campaign or Firefight.
Kat's Helmet - Avenge a teammate's death in multiplayer Matchmaking.

Those all seem pretty easy to get.

And as far as I know they are all separate from the achievements.  I guess that is neither good nor bad, but it makes it more interesting for the designers letting them essentially have more achievements.

That awesome ...
Emile's hemlet look terrific.

Wow thats pretty cool.

#6 Posted by YoungFrey (1209 posts) - 2 years, 9 months ago

I would say the bad news is that you can't earn a Noble Team suit to go with the helmet.  But the Noble 6 Armor is on sale in the store.    For 400 points (5 USD).  But since they have Waypoint, they probably could still add an earnable suit later.  Maybe.

#7 Posted by Alphawolfy (321 posts) - 2 years, 9 months ago

Cool! The helmet might look a bit weird without that armor to go with it though. And I doubt I will spend 400MS points for that :P

I'm not too concerned about the avatar awards but it looks like they're providing a good amount of items for people who are.

Actually pretty much every full retail game with avatar awards gets 5 (not counting DLC).  But usually some number of them are hyper-lame T-shirts.  Like Blur, even some incredibly hard achievements only awards dull lookinf Ts.  It's nice of Reach make all 5 good.

guys, guys, stop and think about this for a minute.  You're ready to play avatar dress up with halo helmets?  where am I?

My thoughts exactly. That's awesome that we can get them pretty quickly.

I'm not much an avatar person either but I do appeciate when developers add in unlockable avatar clothing. Red Dead, Limbo, and the Reach Beta have all had good unlockables. Now I would never pay for avatar clothes.... but I'm always down for free stuff.

I so want Emile's helmet so bad!

#13 Posted by rockintomordor (4 posts) - 2 years, 9 months ago

These look sweet and all, but still disappointed I can't get Noble 6's helmet.

#14 Posted by Fjordson (2437 posts) - 2 years, 9 months ago

Awesome. Would love to get Emile's helmet.

Question for anybody who actually has earned a Reach award.  Are the avatar awards awarded from Reach or Waypoint like with every other Halo avatar award?  I updated Waypoint this morning and it didn't add any avatar awards, so I'm guessing they are via Reach directly.

Also, why can you buy every Noble team armor suit except Kat's?  And all five of them come in female and male version, so that argument doesn't make sense.

#16 Posted by Sn1PeR (140 posts) - 2 years, 8 months ago

I'm loving the new avatar award trend.  Buying useless dress up items is stupid.  This is a welcome addition, well played Bungie.

#17 Posted by MaFoLu (1820 posts) - 2 years, 8 months ago

Am I the only one who thinks Emile's helmet looks pretty bad? The rest look kinda cool though.
Also, free stuff is always great, even if these will look pretty weird without the armor suits.

I'm into it, but I have to be really careful.  Sure, I won't pay 80 MSP for avatar gear in the marketplace.  No way, that is crazy (people who do buy them, I'm joking, don't go nuts).  But to be honest, I probably wouldn't have bought some of my XBLA games (like Ancients of Ooga) if they didn't have awards.

I thought Emile's looked better in-game, but I don't think it looks bad in the avatar model.

You can't get any Noble armor suits for free, but you can earn the ODST armor by getting the Good Samaritan achievement in ODST.

I agree it looks better ingame, atleast from what I've seen of it in videos. I just think the avatar model looks pretty wierd, maybe it's just the picture that's making it look that way.

I don't mind that you have to play to get them - I just hope you don't have to do well to get them.

...cause I'm pretty confident that I'm gonna suck :P

It'll be neat to have so cool avatar stuff for free. Still playing the campaign, really enjoying it so far.

#25 Edited by CenturionCajun (1461 posts) - 2 years, 8 months ago

I think he was more meaning that those people without internet or Gold accounts are going to be locked out of being able to acquire them.

I too am happy that the requirements to get them are rather lenient although I could have sworn I racked up a hundred or more kills straight last night. I was playing on Normal and didn't die too often. I'm also curious about some of the customizable armor that requires you to do things on Waypoint like the Military Police helmet. I wonder if they have more avatar awards hidden on Waypoint now that they totally updated it.

EDIT: Well, I found where the Noble Six helmet is. They currently have a deal going where you can renew your Gold membership for $29.99 and get Noble Six's helmet avatar item. This is especially annoying for me considering my live membership just renewed three days ago. I'm sorely tempted to add another year on since that's a pretty sweet deal but upsetting none the less. I'm curious if they'll put it up later for seperate purchase.

As far as I know, all the available avatar awards will show up in your profile when you customize your avatar.  Ones you haven't earned will be locked, but they will still have slots.  After the Waypoint update, I the listed number didn't change any.  Although since Waypoint seems exempt from the usual 5-awards-per-game rule (2 for XBLA) they can probably add more any time they want.
#27 Posted by CenturionCajun (1461 posts) - 2 years, 8 months ago

I'm not going to lie. I fell victim to the Live renewal. It's pretty much half price from what it's going to change to and I know I'm going to renew anyways. Plus this helmet completes my collection.

Yes, I know I'm a bad person. *Puts helmet on avatar*

#28 Posted by killer_meatballs (428 posts) - 2 years, 8 months ago

No way in hell I'd get the first or fourth, but then again, I suck!

#29 Posted by SteamPunkJin (1286 posts) - 2 years, 8 months ago

Gotta give it to MS on this one...well played sirs.
Put the helmets in game and sell the armor for $5 bucks. On the flip side, buy Armor for $5 bucks and then have to buy the $65 dollar game to complete the look.
Should have split more evenly at least - put 2 or 3 complete armor set (with the helmet) on sale, and stick the rest in the game - it's fun to dream.

#30 Posted by EightBitShik (1278 posts) - 2 years, 8 months ago

What exactly is a Bulltrue?

#31 Posted by CenturionCajun (1461 posts) - 2 years, 8 months ago

If anyone else has ponied up for the renewal at $29.99 it appears if you already have live that it just makes it so that when it is scheduled to renew again you'll just pay the $29.99. Also, it appears that they are going to e-mail out codes for the Noble Six helmets. Lets see if they are speedier that the God of War III skins that took something like six weeks for me to get the code.

Well, considering you can customize noble 6 that would be a LOT of helmets.

A place where some of us enjoy completing challenges that are presented to us in a game, especially when they give us an award for the hell of it?  I mean, what's wrong with that?

I've got Kat's helmet, which is easy.  All of them aren't super tough, but still...
#34 Posted by Fjordson (2437 posts) - 2 years, 8 months ago

Already have Kat's helmet. Would really love to get Emile's.

#35 Posted by brownsfantb (329 posts) - 2 years, 8 months ago

I got Kat's and Emile's helmet tonight. I didn't even know they were unlockable, I just happened to get them. Too bad they look stupid on my avatar without any armor to go with them.

but are these for your avatar?  Customizing your spartan in the game is fine, but since when did people start caring about those dumb avatar characters?  MS has really got you guys if they have you thinking about what clothes your avatar should wear.  Sometimes you just gotta step back and realize there are some things you don't need, and then there are some things you really don't need.
#37 Posted by flufflogic (281 posts) - 2 years, 8 months ago

I've got Jun's thanks to Firefight. The Bulltrue one I can probably get the same way. Revenge kill isn't too hard. Killtacular in MP... Hard. Carter's I can possibly do co-op.

They're free so what's the issue?  I don't think "MS has really got" anyone by giving out free virtual stuff via in-game rewards.

Well, all of them seem pretty simple to get accept for Jorge's. To get his you have to achieve a Killtacular in Matchmaking multiplayer. That's to go on a five kill streak. This will require lots of play and luck to get as it means you have to take out five people over the course of a few seconds.

#41 Posted by ShaneDev (1696 posts) - 2 years, 8 months ago

I got Emiles and have been wearing it but dont want to wear if everyone has it if you know what I mean might try and get Jorges helmet.
