Lost all my campaign progress

#1 Posted by natetodamax (19136 posts) -

Today when I fired up Reach, I got a message saying "Welcome To Noble Team!" and my Spartan's armor was all reverted back to the default. I thought nothing of it because this glitch has happened to me before, but when I went to campaign to complete some of the daily challenges I saw that the game erased all of my progress. This is absolutely infuriating, because I was working on beating the game on Legendary and even had some of the missions completed on solo. Will it be back when I start the game later or am I totally screwed?

Did you dl it to yur HDD and have you checked your memory and game saves?  Could be a corrupt drive I guess. Weird shit, and man that sucks if you've lost your sp legendary progress. I've never had any such prob.  When you look at campaign by missions, does it show single and co-op completion stuff per lvl, or just nothing like a first time playthrough?

@pweidman: All I have is "Noble Actual". I posted this thread on Bungie and they said if I turned the game off while it was saving or something it would do that. I must have done that yesterday without realizing it. So stupid.

To be fair, the game probably did you a favour. Fuck playing some of those later missions on Legendary (solo). Especially the last bit of the game.

Sorry but you are screwed. That happened to me a few months ago. Thankfully when I was doing my legendary run it never happened.

I think the mid game sequences are way harder to legendary solo than the last bit... they get way more generous with hard hitting weapons towards the end but even if they didn't, there was little a plasma pistol and dmr couldn't murder.

That's the problem with these games that autosave a lot. You really need to make sure you watch when you shut the console off. I know Reach is checkpoint based but it's the same type of deal.

@natetodamax:  it happened to me too the other day. I fired up Reach and got the welcome screen with all the single player progress was wiped as well.

Wow, this is a problem. They need to make it clearer to the user when it's auto-saving and when it's not. Maybe pausing the game before turning the system off would be a good idea.

Happened to me in Banjo Kazooie. That game auto saves like crazy. I now never turn off my xbox without going back to a main menu.

Why don't they just disable turning the system off while it's auto-saving?

I'm with the people who make sure they are in a main menu.  Always back out fully before turning it off.  It takes just a few seconds and any lost progress will be the same as if you turned the xbox off.  I don't think they need to make it easier to see when its saving, people just need to be more careful.  There are warning posted, and if you know a game auto-saves, its just best to always back out first just in case.

@Teran: That's a good point - I remember there was a mission where I didn't have a DMR... I almost cried.

Also, I only mentioned the ending just cause the game should have damn well ended when you got on that ship, and not and you go back. It was insulting and bloody annoying.

@Chavtheworld:  Well the DMR was interchangeable with the pistol or covenant needle rifle thingy so it was rare when you didn't have one of those three, but yeah when you're stuck with an assault rifle killing enemies feels slow and painful even if you've got a plasma pistol for the shield.  I think though that's why the mid missions were more difficult... covenant didn't have the better weapons in great volume yet, and you weren't in supply bases and such so ammo caches for the human weapons were few and far between.
