New BR in Halo: Reach?

Just lurking on GAF and I came across this picture in the ODST thread. Seems like a pretty legitimate shot of what is ostensibly the new BR in Halo: Reach. This could also be totally unrelated to Halo I suppose. Just thought I'd post it to see what you guys think.

That looks pretty legit Halo to me. Looks like a Beam Rifle up there in the corner of the HUD.
Of course, I'm not gonna do a super in depth pixel counting analysis like some people here might, so I could be wrong.

neogaf has a bunch of pics now... and then it clicked. I would bet you anything that this was jeff's secret assignment last week, there was probably some press event to show it for the first time, and thats where these pics came from

That's what I was thinking. From what the poster of these said, it sounds like a sort of press event.

So like, if this is a prequel to Halo... why are we getting these guns that seem way better and more advanced then the guns in the other Halo games?

Am I making any sense here? It seems strange to get super needler carbines and battle rifles with ammo readouts in a game that takes place before the games with the inferior guns.

Its true that it is going to be a prequel or w.e. but at the end of the day if we get guns that are more powerful, sound better feel better and look better. I am not going to complain

Holy shit this looks awesome. It doesn't look as campy as the Halo trilogy. The guns actually look menacing and seem like they would fuck you up.

The new engine looks great to just comparing the new lazer to the first one show just how much the graphics have improved.

another thing im thinking is, the VGAs are soon I believe, and they always have "WORLD EXCLUSIVE" trailers there... if they are indeed showing the game to select press, they might have a trailer for the VGAs too
