Which 360 Halo is the best?
I'm a PC gamer getting a 360 for the first time. I want to play a modern Halo game but for money reasons can't get them all at once. Which is the best GAME of the three?
Thanks!
You don't want to play Halo online, any of them, trust me.
I didn't like any of the new Halo games.
Out of those 3 though, the general consensus seems to be that Reach is the best of the 3.
Halo 2 was the last one I really enjoyed though.
I have to admit that my favorite of the 3 on the list was actually ODST, followed by Halo 3 and with Reach in last place (sorry Reach, I like you but...).
Anyway, you are missing two 360 Halo games! Where is Halo Wars and Halo: Anniversary?
If you haven't played Halo before, get the Anniversary edition of the first game. It's still great.
I'm a huge fan of Reach, and ODST is very underrated. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong. All of the modern Halo games are worth playing.

What!?!? Why? Halo's campaigns are fantastic and the most important part, to me, of the Halo franchise, but damn, the online is fun. What's the issue?
To the OP: I voted 3. However, you won't get a vastly different experience in any of them, and Reach is the more current iteration. Note that ODST is shorter and, instead of its own multiplayer, includes all of the Halo 3 maps. Also note that, while the experiences are similar, each game is fairly distinctive in both single and multiplayer. They aren't completely interchangeable like, say, Modern Warfare.
@believer258: Maybe it was just my experiences.
Nearly every game I was in I had something like this: Kids wailing mindlessly into their mics while humping everything in sight. I fucking hate hearing their squeaky voices and I really fucking hate hearing them mindlessly wailing/rapping while t-bagging everything they come across. They act in completely assinine fashions, doing things that defy common sense and logic. They team kill because they're too fucking idiotic to look at their radar, they don't watch their backs so you end up getting shot from behind when there were fucking 2+ people behind you. Even when you check behind you, you still have to check in front of you too, can't be doing both.
Oh, I nearly forgot-
Guy #1 :"Hey bro, you hook up wit dat gurl?"
Guy #2: "Yeah dood she's totally hawt"
Guy #1:"You gonna fuck her man?"
Guy#: "Yeah imma tap dat ass hurr"
Oh then there's the ever present "This gaem r srs bro" people telling you that you suck because you don't play the fucking game as much as they do.
Sorry, some of us are in college and have other responsibilities.
Muting them would help, yeah, but who wants to mute people all the time. Gets annoying.
Maybe I just have low tolerance.
This is why I rarely play games online.
Sorry, can't vote as my favourite Halo this generation and the ONLY Halo game I enjoyed was Halo: Wars.
I am serious. I only have 3, not ODST or Reach, as after 1, 2 & 3, I have finally given up on trying to like Halo.
@Still_I_Cry For the most part, Halo is only like that down in the TrueSkill basement. If you can play and win a few games and get your TrueSkill up a little, you get to the pont where everyone actually knows what they're doing and keeps quiet a little more. (although it might also help that I only ever play with a group and we tend to mostly get matched against other groups)
Halo 3 had the best story, Reach the best multiplayer/firefight.
ODST is fun if you're a fan of Firefly and Halo.

All right. Not the fault of the game itself but its players. I can agree here, but I have long since started to either use party chat, play custom games, or just not talk at all. I usually don't have the mic on in the game lobby in any multiplayer game.
You can't stop the t-bagging, but *eh*. That never actually bothered me, especially since I usually get the chance to see them shot from behind while they're doing it.

Important info:
1) I am looking for singleplayer.
2) I played 1 and 2 on PC. Loved 1, disliked 2.
All of them have great single players, though I recommend 3 over them all. Oh, and if you liked 1, then play Anniversary. Seriously. It looks and runs better than any other version available.

Yeah, definitely.
I have no problem with the single player modes. They just didn't grab me like Halo and Halo 2's did.
Reach is probably your best bet. Self contained story and the best multiplayer. Wiki the halo story if you're interested in it for 4.
Seeing how you've already played 1 and 2 you might as well finish up and see how Halo 3 ends; that might get you excited for Halo 4. If you just don't care anymore then get Halo Reach because it is one of the most fully featured games on xbox.
Reach I felt was the best game overall but ODST I think had the best campaign, the HUB world, characters and soundtrack just worked.

1: Halo: CE
2: Halo: Reach
3: Halo 3
4: Halo: ODST
5: Halo 2
The fact you put CE on top and 2 on the bottom, which is how I feel about them, makes me trust you. Plus the poll seems to agree. Thanks.
I would put ODST above 3 though. ODST gets a lot of shit because it was overpriced, and Halo 3 was hyped to hell, but I didn't play those games at launch or pay full price for them. I played Halo 3 again only a couple weeks ago and the game is just unfocused. I barely remember actually shooting enemies on foot. The game relies much too heavily on vehicle sections and setpieces that aren't actually fun at all (fighting Scarabs is boring and way too video-gamey). ODST's characters aren't the most exciting (I did not care for Buck, Veronica, or Romeo at all) but the pacing and enemy placement of the ODST missions is much more focused than Halo 3, and the Rookie missions have decent fighting, but the atmosphere is really thorough.
I personally think that Reach is, hands down, the best interpretation of the Halo formula. I don't see a point in making new Halos after it...just add new maps and modes and you're good. Halo 4 is basically just trying to mix Call of Duty with Halo, which is fine I suppose, so I don't really think its going to be the same experience for people who like the Halo formula. The game might still be good but I can't really think of it as Halo.
Halo 3 is my favorite, but I recommend Reach for many reasons. Also you don't need to know what happens in the previous games to understand the story in Reach.
EDIT: Didn't see that you said that you played 1 and 2. Maybe you should get 3 to see how that trilogy wraps up, and I bet you can get 3 for dirt cheap now.

From what my friends say its Halo 2 > Reach >>> Halo 3 ( which is the same as odst, swap for a shorter campaign add firefight)
So Reach.

That has never happened to me. Sure I've encountered some assholes in Halo but nothing major. It might be because I'm European. I think I encountered more bullshit in the 20 hours I've played Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on the PC than in the 220+ hours of Reach and Halo 3 multiplayer I've played
