It was called the Bell Beefer, and it flopped miserably. Apparently, it looked something like this:

Not the real thing... but close enough.

From what I can tell, it was some combination of a taco and a hamburger. Did anyone ever eat one of these? Better yet, would anyone want to?

I can honestly say that no Taco Bell in my neck of the woods ever sold one of those abominations in my lifetime.

Our bell never sold a burger, but they did sell fries a few years back.

#18 Posted by mrsmiley (1254 posts) -

It was the early 80s. Consisted of some ground beef slopped on a bun. Awesome. ;)

#19 Posted by hush404 (795 posts) -

....Sloppy Joe? LOL.

#20 Posted by Shocker (2324 posts) -

I've never heard of that. I cannot imagine it tasting good at all...

#21 Posted by Smedles (202 posts) -

According to Wikipedia: The Bell-Beefer - a taco like hamburger with a hamburger bun, taco meat, cheese, tomato, and lettuce.
After looking at other sites it seems it was just the insides of a taco put into a hamburger bun.

Ha! I worked at Taco Bell in 1998 (my first job lol) and someone once asked if we still had the burger.

Needless to say I had no idea what they were talking about. Then they went into a long diatribe how TB used to rock a burger.

wow that's crazy... never knew taco bell had a burger.

#32 Posted by Timothy (76 posts) -

There is a taco chain in Oklahoma called Taco Mayo that makes a burger just like that. I can't stand the awful stuff that they put in their meat so I haven't had one in years.

Don't remember Taco Bell ever having a burger but my local Taco Bell is still about the only place on Earth that still sells Mountain Dew Baja Blast..........the greatest beverage ever made.

That is what we in the bis call a sloppy joe. But no far back as I can remember is the dog

#36 Posted by Anonymous (139 posts) -

I don't remember it.

#37 Posted by kennybaese (714 posts) -

I've had a taco burger before. They can actually be quite tasty. As far as Taco Bell's taco burger... yeah, I never knew that existed. And given the fact that it's Taco Bell... I'm thinking there's probably a good reason for that.

Taco Bell is only good when you're drunk and need food in your stomach. Unless you're getting some cinnamon twists. Cinnamon twists are awesome.

Sorry - couldn't pass it up - new to the forums!

I remember these.

They called them a "bell burger" way, way back.... Say late 70's early 80's.  I ate them when I was a kid in San Jose, California.  !Oops, did I just show my age??

I remember "frings" from Jack-in-the-Box too!

BTW ... I loved the smear campaign idea ;)
