YES THEY ARE!

I just wanted to bring this thread back.

You're doing God's work, son. And yes, they are sandwiches.

They're padded meatcakes. ~ Duh!

Not sandwich.

It's two pieces of bread with stuff in the middle. That makes it a sandwich man! This is a meat-cake;

I would say they are an evolved form of sandwiches. One day, a sandwich with raw beef on it, ascended to the heavens, and came back as as a new being, with toasted bread, and cooked beef, a long with pickles, lettuce, tomato, and onions.

So my excuse is, a sandwich went to the sun, got burnt, and caught a few flying vegetables(and one fruit) while flying back to earth.

Also would it be Blasphemy to recreate this thread as a poll?

Yes.

Yeah. If I showed you two pictures with identical buns and a black bar obstructing the contents, you'd say they were both burgers. But one of them....was a breakfast SANDWICH with egg and sausage.

BOOM. I just impregnated your mind.

Ah, THE classic thread.

Had this picture on my computer for a while. Dunno if anyone else posted something like this, but this is McDonald's position on the matter.
Hope it helps :)

Someone needs to bring this topic back from the dead. I guess I will.

THey are different, when I say I want a sandwich it does not mean burger and vice versa

Are pizzas pies?

All hamburgers are sandwiches, but not all sandwiches are hamburgers. The typical imagined sandwich is not a hamburger, but it certainly fits the criteria for being a sandwich.

Burgers are a subsection of sandwiches that have become so diverse and varied i believe it should not longer fall under that umbrella. If you say "hey lets get some sandwiches" and you bring me a god damn burger, i'll slap you in the face and then eat the burger. Because burgers are great.

But no Pizzas are not pies. Pies have a pastry crust, pizzas have a bread crust. They are not in the same catagory. Sorry newyork, you're all bunch of assholes for pushing this term.

Burger = food.

Sandwich = food.

Therefore, burger = sandwich.

Both hot dogs and burgers are sandwiches and I will knife fight everyone in here

#717 Posted by Vuud (1943 posts) -

It may be a sandwich, but a burger will never be a "sammich".

Since this thread got necro'ed and no one mentioned it...

The fine folks at McDonalds have also classified chicken nuggets and chicken strips as sandwiches. And they want to make $15 an hour. Pfft.

But when I say I want a sandwich, it DOES mean I want a burger.

If you put pieces of bread over the bun, then yes. It would be a hamburger sandwich.

#721 Edited by Clonedzero (4092 posts) -

Do you believe in evolution?

Well burgers are a species that evolved out of sandwiches, yet they are no longer sandwiches, they evolved past that.

SCIENCE!

It's like calling zebra horses. You just look like an asshole.

Yes.

Yes.

The purpose of this thread is to have a never ending debate until the end of time. Or until Giant Bomb ends up getting shuttered because Jeff went nuts and ended up chewing on the network cables. 0_o

All burgers are sandwiches, but not all sandwiches are burgers.

....this thread makes me miss Ryan. If there is an afterlife, I can picture him arguing this point with God for days.

I would say no because they should have their own category due to the vast variety. Case in point (these burgers look a little moldy, but the image does showcase the diverse range):

@helvetica: OK, I'll have to draw the line there. Fuck that. Macarons are not hamburgers. Meringue cannot be hamburger buns. And before anyone says anything gummy burgers ain't no hamburgers either.

It is a sandwich cookie. Gawd, do most of you live in fucking whisky barrels? That's the only explanation for this topic coming up over and over again!

Well it only took me 6 years to find this thread but I can finally put it to rest once and for all: Are hamburgers sandwiches?

Nope!

Ketchup on a burger.

Mustard on a hotdog.
