Hamburger

Object » linked to 265 games

A hamburger is a hunk of ground beef served between two pieces of bun-configured bread. Hamburgers are often served with a variety of toppings and condiments. It is named for the region in which it was invented, not for the kind of meat (as is often mistakenly suggested).

I can't see why people detest pickles in burgers.
I love pickles in my burgers. Well I just love pickels on their own.

Do any of you guys dislike burger pickles?

If so why?

#2 Posted by Suicrat (3731 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

I like pickles on the side, to enjoy in between the fries and the burger.

#3 Posted by Gaughan (94 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

My hate is not directed to burger pickles, I just dislike all pickles in general.
I just do not like the favour, at is it really.

It's because pickles taste like crap. Why do people mutilate cucumbers!?! Cucumbers taste good.

#5 Posted by addictedtopinescent (3645 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

Dude I'm with you pickles are the shit

#6 Posted by JoelTGM (5584 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

Because the taste of a pickle stands out, and, in my opinion, is out of place in the burger experience.  You take a bite, and all you taste is that bitter rotten pickle; it overrides all the other tastes.

#7 Posted by Killroycantkill (1320 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

Pickles are great, sweet pickles are grabage. But the thing with burger pickles is that they get all warm in the hamburger and pickles are ment to be enjoyed cold and crispy.

#8 Posted by Muttinus_Rump (801 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

Whoa, who be hatin' on pickles? Pickles are the reason I get up in the morning.

It's simply a preservation technique to keep vegetables tenable in times fresh articles are scarce.
But i must admit, i'm not particularly fond of them either.
Luckily, we live in a day and age that it's no more required to preserve foods this way.
#12 Posted by GeekDown (1069 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

I hate them...they're all warm and soggy, it's disgusting. I do like them on the side though.

#13 Posted by xyzygy (8596 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

I like my burgers tasting really meaty... I don't like the sweetness of pickles in a burger, but outside of burgers pickles are awesome.

#14 Posted by clubsandwich (3795 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

good god, I fucking hate pickles, they taste terrible.

#15 Posted by Jensonb (1564 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

I'm not opposed to a good pickle on a burger - but it has to be a good pickle. I like McDonald's burgers wit the pickles on them for example.

Pickles are kinda like Marmite - either you love it, or you hate it. Personally, I hate both pickles and marmite.

Does marmite get to all corners of the globe? If you don't have marmite where you are, Marmite is a black spread made from yeast extract that uses the advertising slogan "You either love it or hate it". And it tastes bloody disgusting.

Pickles are awesome.

#18 Posted by cap123 (2475 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

they ruin the texture of the burger most of the time, so i open my burger up, eat pickles on own, close burger, then enjoy a soft, non-crunchy meat sandwich.

#19 Posted by UnsolvedParadox (1815 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

I just don't see the point if you're already getting relish. As such, I get pickles on the side.

It also depends on the flavours of your other condiments, I won't get either relish or pickles if there's barbeque sauce in it. I'd even extend this to the type of meat, I'd only get relish/pickles for a beef patty (never, ever for chicken or veal or anything else).

#20 Posted by Mistzero (265 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

if you dont like pickles gtfo jk but yeah pickles are awesome i even eat it by itself

#21 Posted by buzz_clik (6722 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

Yeah, I dig the pickle. They add that little bit of zest, a miniature sidequest in the middle of your burger.

@Suicrat: I hate Mayonnaise !

I love hamburger pickles, as long as they stay the fuck off my hamburger. But sliced pickles are a great snack and the ruffled ones feel neat on your tongue.

Then you can freeze the juice and eat a pickle sickle... just don't lick the pure pickle oil that tends to surface. That shit is bitter.

#25 Posted by Coombs (3436 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

because restaurant pickles are always soggy and gross,
And if making them at home most people only keep Dill pickles which dont compliment the burger well

#26 Posted by Bigandtasty (3143 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

Pickles are fine at the right temperature and with the right burger.

I agree restaurant pickles are way too soggy for burgers, but dill is the only way to go.

I like pickles but not on burgers.

#29 Posted by Kraznor (1497 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

I'm fine with pickles on burgers but its not an essential ingredient for me. Harvey's (restaurant chain that has seen better days) has some of the best pickles in the business. I made burgers today actually, didn't have pickles on-hand though but it didn't ruin the experience.

I like them on the side too but on the burger isnt bad too.  I think the problem comes in where the pickels are ice cold coming out of the refrigerator.

I'm eating it since i ate my first slice of bread with cheese... i must've been age three.
It's a hearty versitile spread i enjoy still on bread with peanutbutter.
Marmite is since 2000 a part of Unilever, a Dutch food company.
Btw, i'm from the Netherlands.

Pickles in my burger? Come on man, they need to be put on the side, where they belong. If you want them on there, put them there, but if you don't, they're just on the side in the first place! Pickles are awesome, no doubt, but I want to eat them separately, not on my burger.

This is coming from somebody who has never had them on his burger, however. Then again, I usually prefer a plain burger, unless the accessories include lettuce and bacon.

#33 Posted by munnyman5 (181 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

I'll stick some vertical pickle slices in a hamburger. Why not? It gives that nice sour tangy taste to it!

Some burgers need it, some don't. Like the burgers they make at my university's cafe are so bland it hurts, and having a chuck of pickle thrown in with it gives it some redeeming quality.

If the burgers are straight-up PERFECT, like In-N-Out Burgers, then I leave the pickles. Because, as one Jeff Gerstmann photo says, "YOU CAN'T BEAT 100 PERCENT".

I love pickles on the burger!

I love the gherkin in burgers! But only sometimes. Sometimes I want no gherkin, sometimes I do.

bacon is one of my favorite things to put on a burger.

this. I love pickles by themselves, but they don't go with the rest of the burger-the meat, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, (bacon, hopefully) all go together really well, but the pickle has a sharp contrast that detracts from that.

Pickles are fine, tomatos are the culprit - making everything else all soggy and what not.

#44 Posted by Sparky_Buzzsaw (4906 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

I like just about any kind of pickles on my burgers.  Making up a couple right now with some dill pickle slices and a bit of sweet relish (among other things).

I think it's the texture and taste that stray people away from putting them on hamburgers.  They are unexpected, and hit you at the wrong moment.

I dont hate pickles but i dont love them either, and i can unserstand why people hate them in their burger, they do overrride the taste as DOUBLESHOCK said.

I dont like any relish or sauce in my buger too...nor too many contents, i want it rough, i want it hard, i want it solid....yeah.

pffft what i would really like is too not be so damn intollerant to beef.

#50 Posted by blaze503 (189 posts) - 3 years, 5 months ago

nah you should have just a whole pickle on the side, can't beat it when it comes to having a burger.
