I'd say it's a sandwich as it's something between two pieces of bread, although I think it's confusing as it's warm and a warm sandwich is really a toastie isn't it?

i think of it as a sandwich.

according to wikipedia a sandwich is 'A sandwich is a food item made of two or more slices of leavened bread with one or more layers of filling, typically meat or cheese, with the addition ofvegetables or salad." so yea i would say a hamburger is a sandwich

A hamburger is a different class of sandwich. It's like an evolved sandwich, so to speak.

It has totally got to be a Sandwich, you put stuff in between two slices of bread, it is a sandwich. Hamburgers, are only for Hams :p

It might fall in the sandwhich category, but this is far from the truth. Hambugers Fall into their own category, which is the badass category.

A sandwhich is comprised of something edible stuck between two slice of bread. A hamburger is comprised of something edible stck between two slice of bread. Thus, hamburger=sandwhich.

I'll go with the menu excuse. Hamburgers are labeled in a different category than the sandwiches.

It is a samich, but lets be honest; the burger has always been a very, very extended subset of the samich family.

It would technically correct but foolish to call a Burger a samich.

My criteria for a sandwhich is something between two slices of bread. Also, isn't it great that you can put anything between two9 slices of bread and it's instantly better? HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!?

I think they can definitely be considered a sandwich. Like I can imagine someone asking for a "hamburger sandwich". As for hot dogs? Not so much.

Sweet heart, humburgers come from Hamburg, Germany.
hence their name.
*sigh*
wikipedia is useful not only for plagiarism, but for hiding ignorance.

When I break down all the parts that make up a hamburger it sounds just like a sandwich...but for some reason I just can't bring myself to say. "Yes. A hamburger is a sandwich." It just sounds wrong...

Yea there related but there are so many different kinds of hamburgers I would categorize them in there own group and not part of the sandwich group.

So what makes a hero different from a sandwich, or a submarine? Or is a hamburger related to a sandwich like a sub is to a sandwich.... I'm starting to confuse myself!!

The original sandwich is pieces of meat in between two breads (I think so anyway) which was eaten at a poker game (that I'm sure of), so by definition sandwich comes first, so whether hamburger is considered as an off-shoot or a variation of a sandwich, either way it's definitely a subset of the original creation.

I think hamburgers are the elite sandwiches, constituted as such by 2 buns, a choice of meat, and various toppings. However, they serve the purpose of destroying hunger more easily, being served heated and sometimes featuring more robust toppings and sides than those of your average sandwich.

A Hamburger is not  sandwich imo....due to the fact that it's in a bun.

Cheese + Bun = Cheese roll ....... Cheese + bread = Sandwich.

Beefburger + bread = Beef burger sandwich ...... Beefburger + Bun = Beef burger.

;)
