Overview
Hanagumi Taisen Columns 2 is a falling-block tile-matching puzzle game developed and published by Sega for the Dreamcast in Japan on January 6, 2000.
It is a direct sequel to the 1997 game Hanagumi Taisen Columns, building on the Columns gameplay of the original (with an updated Spirit Gauge system) while introducing characters and story elements from the original game's 1998 sequel. It features a new set of visual novel stories for Story Mode and included online multiplayer for it (which was later discontinued on August 31, 2001).
Gameplay
Elements
When selecting a character, players are given one of multiple elements to choose from, each changing how they use their Spirit Gauge:
- Wind - Spirit Gauge builds up faster and players can use Magic Jewel at Level 2. However, they cannot make Level 3 Attacks and Level 3 Defenses.
- Mountain - First Spirit Level is always accumulated, allowing easier access to higher Spirit Levels. However, the Spirit Gauge builds up slower.
- Fire - Players gain an additional Spirit Level for Level 4 Attacks. However, they cannot make Level 3 or Level 4 Defenses, and can only use Magic Jewel at Level 3.
- Shadow - Unlockable. First two Spirit Levels are always accumulated, allowing immediate access to Level 3. However, the Spirit Gauge builds up much slower.
- Lightning - Unlockable. Players gain an additional Spirit Level for Level 4 Attacks and the Spirit Gauge builds up much faster. However, they cannot use either Defense or Magic Jewel.
