This Evolution of Contra (Mostly) Works 0
The past few years have seen a swell in the amount of franchises looking to get back to their roots. Games such as Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode One and Street Fighter 4 have tried to return their respective franchises to their roots with varying degrees of success. Konami has decided to take a different approach with Hard Corps: Uprising by evolving the Contra formula in some interesting ways while still remaining true to what made the series great in the first place. A lesson in bad design. 0
Most people would agree that bad checkpoints in a Contra style game is unforgivable. It is. What's even worse is when the developers seem to realize they made a big mistake, and take the easy way out. Arc System Works took the easy way out. Hard Corps Uprising is Contra. This high concept, poorly executedbullet hell run and gun game is nothing less than a P.O.S.. Before I take a crack at finding some of the good, and using all of the horrible, let's see the backstory, yes?The year is 2613, and an empire known as The Commonwealth controls everything. When there's an empire, there's usually...

It's Contra 0
I love Contra. I use to play Contra III for hours with friends and even though I would get my ass handed to me I still came back each time. Hard Corps: Uprising is Contra. Somethings, such as the artwork and leveling up, have changed or are new to the Contra series, but the basics are all there. This game acts as a prequel to Contra: Hard Corps. You actually get to play Bahamut, the boss of Hard Corps and if you download the extra characters then you have up to five characters to reek devas...
