A must play game for all PS3 owners
When I first saw Heavy Rain, I must say that I was skeptical. I game that only uses quicktime events for gameplay? No thanks. But as I continued to here about the story and the intense scenes in it, I got increasingly interested until the demo came out. Then I decided that this game seemed cool enough and that I would rent it sometime. I was lucky enough to get it the first day it game out at our local rental store and have been playing it over the last week, and let me tell you this: THIS GAME IS AWESOME!!!
The main thing that makes this game so amazing is the story. If you are looking for gameplay (like I said, it's all quicktime events), then this is not the game for you. Heavy Rain is clearly a story driven game. The first 90 minutes of the eight hour game are just spent setting up the story and why you should feel sad for the main character, Ethan Mars. After that first 90 minutes the intense story starts off and doesn't end until you reach the conclusion that you chose. This takes me to my second main topic, choices. Thoughout the entire game, there are plenty of little (and big) choices that you get to decide. This determinds the outcome of the game. For example, I played through the game acting like Mr. NIce-guy but did one thing wrong by accident (that seemed very small and insignificant) and my ending, quite frankly, was fucked up. But I then replayed the last few chapters differently and got a much better and drasticaly different ending. By the time you get to whatever end of the eight hour story, you feel emotionaly bonded to these characters and really care for their survival.
But be warned, Heavy Rain isn't perfect (just like anything). There are several visual and auido glitches, like screen tearing, bad facial animations and at several times the auido died for a few seconds before coming back. This aren't going to ruin the game in any way shape or form, but it does effect it enough to prevent it from getting a 5/5.
And that is the draw that makes Heavy Rain such a great game. Very few games manage to be as unique or original as the creators of Heavy Rain, and the story is one in a million with the bonds that you get with the character and the amount of impact your choices have on the outcome of the game. While the game isn't perfect, the small visual and audio glitches will not affect your enjoyment of this game. This is why EVERYONE needs to play this once in a life time game that is Heavy Rain.
