Overview
A hermaphrodite is a person born with the reproductive organs of both the male and female genders. In reality, such genitals are undersized and incompletely formed. Such people also suffer from several genetic conditions related to their hermaphroditism. However, in the world of fiction, hermaphroditic characters are frequently depicted with both sets of genitals fully formed and sexually capable.
The term "hermaphrodite" comes from Hermaphroditus, the androgynous child of the Greek gods Hermes and Aphrodite.
