Utada Hikaru is a singer, songwriter and producer from Japan. While she has been a huge star in her home country for a decade now, in the west she is most well known for her two theme songs for the popular video game series Kingdom Hearts.

Her first theme song for Kingdom Hearts was "Hikari", light in Japanese, and she adapted the title to English for the international release of Kingdom Hearts. The English adaptation for the song is "Simple and Clean". Her theme song for Kingdom Hearts II is "Passion", while the English version is "Sanctuary". The lyrics for both theme songs are significantly altered between the Japanese and the English version.

In an interview in JETTANY Quarterly Magazine, Utada confirmed that she will not be providing any music for the next core game in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, that is, Kingdom Hearts III.

Hikaru Utada also helped Nintendo promote Tetris DS since she is a big fan of the game. In a special event she won 26 out of 30 matches against winners of a Nintendo contest.
