Hitman Movie Sequel On the Way

Apparently people the world over were entranced by the piercing stare and profound baldness of Timothy Olyphant's Agent 47 and his slutty Russian friend. IESB.net reports that the first Hitman movie grossed roughly 100 million dollars worldwide, a number that makes the stomach churn, though it also helps make sense of news that the producers of the original film are moving ahead with a sequel. Though no casting decisions have been revealed yet, they've signed hot young Hollywood screenwriter Kyle Ward to pen the script.

I'm not sure why Ward is considered such a hot commodity, considering his two meaningful credits are for another movie about a hitman that's being produced by Michael Bay's production company, and Kane & Lynch , both of which are still far from release. But hey, considering those credits, I guess Hitman is right in his wheelhouse, right? I can't say I'm thrilled about this news, though as I race towards the bottom of the barrel of video-game movies for TANG, I suppose there are far worse things than another Hitman movie. In potentially more positive news, IESB is also reporting that a fifth Hitman game is on its way with a release target of late 2010, and the promise that it "will take Agent 47 in a whole new direction." Until then, enjoy this Olyphant stare-off.

First one wasn't that bad.

Does that mean we'll be getting our first ever live TANG from the premiere?

If they know what's good for them:

Hitman vs Max Payne : The Fall of Blood Money

I would totally be in for a MarkE Mark/Sheriff Bullock stare down contest.

Ill say it one more time

Jason statham shouldve been the hitman

and

HITMAN DOES NOT HAVE A FUCKING LOVE INTEREST

The real news here is that the fifth Hitman game has a release window.

I have no interest in watching a Hitman movie. Movies based on video games are horrible but video games based on movies can be good. Look at the Bourne game, it is awesome!

Why indeed Ryan. Why indeed.

I'm excited because it means that's one more TANG episode.

Giant Bomb should do the red carpet. Then Vinny's vision of this site becoming the E! channel of video games can finally come to fruition!

Vinny can do the interviews too.  Because he's the only one that has a suit...

I'm all for it. I liked the first one, sure it wasn't fantastic but it was pretty decent and certainly one of the better videogame based movies out there.

#20 Posted by HitmanAgent47 (8576 posts) -

I can't wait, i'm the only few that actually liked the first movie. Then again i'm also called Hitman Agent 47.

LOOK AT ME>_>STOP TALKING<_<LOOK AT ME>_>...gawd

But I respectfully disagree with Ryan, Agent  42(?) does extremly care for the priest in the one hitman game I liked/played, and he had ppl(say the prostitute) who he liked, even though there seemed nothing sexual about it. It seemed more that his world was a negative cynical one, where a little light would shine. You get the sense of betrayal in the end, and finally retribution of sorts, where he slips the leash. But that was a number of Hitman games ago.

Unfortunately film studios follow ticket sales and not movie reviews when making the decision of continuing with a sequel. So regardless if the movie was worth watching or not the ticket has been sold. Times that by 100 million viewers curious enough to see how well the video game translates onto the big screen (which rarely does) you've got yourself a sequel in the works. Now as for the actual game coming in 2010 I'm curious to know what direction they'll take Agent 47. Will he be all roughed up and old like Solid Snake or Sam Fisher trying to repent his ways and retire from the life but can't, or are they jumping on the physics bandwagon like everyone else, redesigning the game as a whole to make it look better and what not? We'll soon find out I guess.

Hiitman is quite watchable popcorn fare.  No wonder it made the bucks.  The complaints we have would be moot if they had just made Timmy "Agent 27" to match his looks. :)  He's not 47 in character, and if you can ignore that it ignores the source material, it's fine.  Calm down.

what no bloopers reel, dang your guys are getting to good at this stuff lol

I wish this were news about the next and frankly overdue Hitman game myself, not another movie.

Any reason to see Timomthy Olyphant. Yeah, it might be a horrible movie, they need a reasonable plot. OK, thats asking too much.

#29 Posted by AllanIceman (1323 posts) -

Needs more TANG!

#30 Edited by mordukai (7185 posts) -

Why don't they just cast David Bateson for the role of Agent 47?. He is the guy who the Hitman character was modeled after and he also voiced 47 in every hitman game.

i liked the movie overall. i see it as one of the better video game movies out their. But that fight scene with the swords...i felt like if someone walked into the room right then that i would have had to turn it off like i got caught watching porn or something. But other then that it was an ok movie. Could have been AWESOME if the treated the source material with more respect though.

Only thing I remember from the games was wearing dead guy clothes and a virtual penis.

#33 Posted by Fire_Marshall_Bill (126 posts) -

jason statham would be better

#34 Edited by Eric5676 (36 posts) -

Or Jason Statham.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NlChhzHjrs

I take no credit for that.

If he's clean shaven all the way around and tones down his accent a little bit...I think Statham was basically born for the role.

This makes me sad :(

This movie is going to be even WORSE than the first.

#36 Posted by HydraHam (1338 posts) -

I actually somewhat enjoyed hitman going in not trying to compare it to the game series AT all.

#37 Posted by Captainlunchbox (445 posts) -

Haha, solid cutting at the end.

#38 Posted by Chris2KLee (2338 posts) -

I really like Timothy Olyphant, but they need to get someone else for the part. He's too young looking, and 47 always looked more hard edged and older.

#39 Posted by Origina1Penguin (3504 posts) -

As long as they cast a better 47, I'll go see it.

#40 Posted by Dachef (106 posts) -

I'm always appalled by movies studio's inability to quit while they're behind.

Another oscar worthy title brought to you by the integrity laden men and women of Hollywood no doubt. They see no dollar signs, simply the value of true art.

Look on and rejoice, cinema goers, at how far we have come.

No but srsly. This is going to be an even bigger mountain of dog shit than the origional.

#42 Posted by Phished0ne (2539 posts) -

The first one was actually one of the better video game movies..maybe this one will be better..i wont hold my breath though

#43 Posted by MVallicella (1 posts) -

What?!? They found more Dark Angel footage to use.

#44 Posted by Kohe321 (3533 posts) -

More TANG material at least! :)

#45 Posted by Parsnip (1116 posts) -

It's  a pretty good movie. Not particularly accurate to Hitman games, but a good movie nonetheless.

#46 Posted by NMC2008 (1237 posts) -

They are doing it in spite of you and your TANG review and your feelings Ryan, I bet the producers are like "Well, RYAN Davis, we will see how you like a sequel!!! to Hit Man, and for the final blow, we will also secure a sequel to Dragonball The Movie!!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Take that RYAN Davis!"

I could totally see that being played out in my mind.

#47 Edited by MeatSim (10938 posts) -

The only good that's gonna come out of this is a TANG Hitman 2 review.

#48 Posted by boatorious (70 posts) -

I liked Hitman.  I'd watch a sequel.  Probably wouldn't play the game though.  Just seems boring.

#49 Posted by MikeFightNight (1117 posts) -

I saw the first one in theaters and wish I hadn't.  The fact that I gave them money to fund a second one makes me sick.  OK, as an action movie it's probably a C at best, but as someone who enjoys the lore of the games it's total garbage.  The story was junk, however I didn't think Timothy Olyphant was a terrible 47, just bad direction.

Anyway if this movie turns out to be a reboot of the franchise (Which seems hilarious cause there was only 1 movie so far) i'm all for it.

If it's just FOX trying to make another cheap film to get our hard earned dollars, then fuck off.  Someone should put a contract out on those fat cat exces if thats the case.

#50 Posted by Lydian_Sel (2501 posts) -

Timothy Oliphant should have retired after GO. Because nothing he's done since has been as good as the 15 or so minutes of that movie which feature his character.
