The fate of Homeworld in this THQ firestorm.

So, by far, one of the franchises I'm most interested in this whole THQ situation is Homeworld, thankfully so is Luke Plunket at Kotaku

It would seem that because there hasn't been a homeworld title in sometime, not since the demise of Sierra, that Homeworld will be auctioned in a later sale of legacy IP.

There's a safe Homeworld movement on indiegogo at: http://www.indiegogo.com/save-homeworld though I'm not that sure how successful it could be.

What would you guys like to see happen to Homeworld? Should it return, and would you want SEGA to buy the IP to compliment it's purchise of Relic?

Im not sure they'll make it to 50,000 in 14 days unleas people start sending em loads of cash. If homeworld is sold to SEGA and they decide to make a game I do hope they make it a good one. Same goes for the other THQ franchises and mostly the stuff that Relic were making . If you ask me when and if they make another game it will sell, but will it sell well I don't know. Making new editions to old francises or rebooting em doesnt go too well. Homeworld one came out in 1999 and some games since then have tried to imitate it, some did well other not so much. But i really hope that who ever makes the game doesnt fuck it up.

There's no doubt in my mind that Relic could make an amazing Homeworld 3. The question is mostly whether they want to, but god I hope they do.

I'm less certain that anyone else could catch that feeling quite so well, but if that indiegogo does get those guys the IP, I definitely wish them luck. It's hard for me to fault some passionate fans for wanting to break into the industry with a revered franchise like that, and if they've gotten prototypes running on mobile platforms already they must have a decent understanding of how the games work. I just hope they realize the stakes of what they are getting into if they try to continue the series. Porting a game and making a sequel are two very different prospects.

Homeworld has been a great series both for its science fiction and strategy so I really hope it get's revived soon. Now normally I wouldn't trust a storied franchise to a start up studio that needed to kickstart $50,000 just to buy the IP. But here's the thing. A modern Homeworld game would probably not be as technically difficult to make as most modern games. I mean as long as you can build a lot of cool looking 3D models, then make a halfway decent physics engine for them, and then make pretty space backgrounds, well that is pretty much the game right there. All that's left is menus and cut-scenes. Of course if the story sucks then they will live in infamy.

That being said, I still hope that Relic gets it simply because they are a known quantity that can be depended on to make good strategy games.
