When a Human female is taken captive by the Darkspawn and forced through the horrific transformation to become a Broodmother, her offspring are known as Hurlock. Taller than the rank and file Genlock, Hurlock serve as the Archdemon's shock troopers during blights, deployed in smaller number and doing more damage than their smaller cousins. Hurlock strike without mercy and know no fear, cutting and burning down everything in their wake.
Hurlock are often used as commanders or minor leaders on the battlefield, inspiring their Darkspawn allies to fight stronger as they continue to kill. They are often seen using swords or maces, though Hurlocks are the easiest for conversion into an Emissary, thus magic using, staff wielding Hurlock are also common.
