In 1993, the owner of Kingsoft ( a German publisher and developer for budget games ), Fritz Schäfer, decided to venture out and found a new major developer and publisher for Amiga and PC systems - Ikarion Software was born.
Their initial output of games consisted mainly of light-hearted business simulations (such as Mad News, Zeppelin or Caribbean disaster). Later, they branched out and created puzzle games and fantasy-style wargames.
Schäfer eventually left the company and after changing hands a few times and failing to find further investments, the company finally shut down in 2011. However, one game had still been in development and after renaming the titles to 'Sacred' and finding a publisher in Ascaron, they managed to save their reputation and release Sacred with great success.
The developers renamed to Studio 2 Software and have since released Sacred 2 and are working on a third instalment in the series.
