Next year at E3, LucasArts released a trailer, screenshots and boasted that the game would take advantage of new technological breakthroughs. Several new effects engines were named, such as "Euphoria", a physics engine that improves the character AI and made sure that instead of set moves, the NPCs would never give the same reaction twice. The game was also intended to introduce Digital Molecular Matter, a engine that made all environments almost completely destructible. However, the engine premiered on a other game that LucasArts was developing at the same time, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Despite a short stir in the media that the announcements made, nothing new came from it and the game wasn't mentioned by LucasArts for a very long time.
The game was set to be released in 2007, but nothing was said from LucasArts in that year. It was assumed that it would come out at the same time as the upcoming May 2008 Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull film, however still no details were released when the movie was fast approaching. Instead, The Force Unleashed (featuring the same engines as Staff of Kings) was promoted and talked about. Rumours spread about problems with the game's development, with people claiming that the game had been re-teamed and completely revamped to give something that resembles nothing like what was shown at E3. Traveller's Tales' Lego Indiana Jones was released near the fourth Indiana film, and LucasArts simply stated that Staff of Kings would not be out in 2008.
On August 28th 2008, it was discovered that an Indiana Jones title for the DS and PSP had been rated by PEGI. It is unknown whether this refers to Staff of Kings (which would suggest the console versions have been scrapped), or a completely new Indiana Jones game. In the new year, January 12th 2009, IGN reported the rumour that the game had been canned, stating that:
In early February 2009, LucasArts released the game's website with a fact sheet and some screenshots. The game looked graphically inferior to those released several years ago for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The platforms were confirmed to be Wii, DS, PS2 and PSP.
On June 3rd, the first official day of E3 2009, TheRaider.net reported that the novel adaptation of Staff of Kings, written by Rob MacGregor, on which the story of the game was based upon, had been cancelled two weeks before the game's release.

Set in 1939, follow Indiana Jones as he searches all around the globe for the Staff of Moses.
Story
You play as legendary archaeologist, Indiana Jones, in an all new adventure. The game is set in the year 1939 and follows Indiana on a brand new quest which takes him around the world, from Chinatown to the jungles of Panama. Using his whip, fists and wits, Indy must fight through ruthless opposition as he spars with his nemesis, Magnus Völler, in a race for a relic of biblical proportions — the Staff of Moses.Features
The feature list was announced by LucasArt's on their official website on February 3rd 2009, and is slightly different from the 2005 list for the now-defunct Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. The game puts you in the place of Indiana Jones as you control him and his whip for uses such as combat, navigation and puzzle-solving. There are moments where you can engage in gunplay to take out the enemies, and signature run-for-your-life moments, like escaping from a collapsing temple by matching the on-screen gesture prompts. For the Nintendo DS version, players use the stylus as the whip to. Indy can take control of vehicles, allowing him to fly a biplane, take control of a wild elephant and navigate down a river in a raft. There are more than 20 artifacts hidden throughout the game which reward the player with unlockables. Cooperative gameplay introduces a variety of game modes in an entirely new quest with an as-yet unrevealed familiar character who has never before been playable in an Indy game. A four-player versues mode also allows you to go head-to-head in biplane or tank combat. Finally, the full Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis game will be available to unlock.History
In the spring of 2005, LucasArts announced they were developing a brand new internally developed game based around the Indiana Jones franchise. Promised was "noticeable evolution in physics and artificial intelligence" and a completely original storyline, although it may tie-in slightly to the fourth Indiana Jones movie (which had yet to be released) in terms of plot as well as video clips from the film. LucasArts said that the whip, Indy's trademark weapon, would be used just as much as his fists, and that the whip would not be an all-purpose item. Locations such as Istanbul and China were given as places that Indiana would visit in his quest.Next year at E3, LucasArts released a trailer, screenshots and boasted that the game would take advantage of new technological breakthroughs. In the new year, January 12th 2009, IGN reported the rumour that the game had been canned, stating that:
IGN has heard from multiple sources (both internally at LucasArts and elsewhere) involved in the long-in-development Indiana Jones title for Xbox 360 and PS3 that the game has been cancelled. Unofficially we've heard that developers are being reallocated to other projects and that the new Indiana Jones project that we last reported on in April 2006 is dead in the water. However, Joystiq received a response from LucasArts later in the day that contradicted what had been reported from IGN, albeit a very vague statement that doesn't outline dates, developers or even if the details relate to Staff of the Kings:
"LucasArts remains absolutely committed to the Indiana Jones franchise. While we are aware that fans have been eagerly awaiting additional information on the upcoming game, they can rest assured that details are forthcoming."On January 23rd 2009, a trailer for the game was released showing Indiana running through different environments that may feature in the game, such as underground and in a jungle. At the end of trailer, the words 'The adventure continues on Wii' appear, followed by the console's logo, along with the DS and Playstation logo appeared. It was unknown what Sony console this means, nor was it known if the game is still being released on the other platforms (360, PS3 and DS) like originally announced. The trailer states the game will be released in Spring 2009.
