Go fetch!
Infamous: First Light centers around Abigail ”Fetch” Walker who was also in Second Son. Only this time you get to play as her. The game functions as a prequel to SS but you can easily play it even if you haven’t played the “main game” yet. The story starts out with Abigail being captured by the D.U.P. The D.U.P. is an anti-conduit military organization and they keep the conduits away from the regular people. Abigail is interviewed by the leader of D.U.P., Brooke Augustine, and through flashbacks we are told the story of Abigail and her brother, Brent, who lived on the streets during shady stuff in order to stay alive. The story will be familiar to those who have played SS, but they did change certain aspects of the story just a little bit.
The game obviously still plays like SS but there are a few tweaks to the gameplay; enemies now have different focus points for you to hit when aiming, now SS did have a similar mechanic but not as fleshed as it is in FL. Different body parts of the enemies now light up when you aim at them and you have to hit the specific body parts to finish them quicker. It’s a neat little mechanic that adds a little skill and finesse to the gameplay. Seattle is also sprinkled with neon gas which makes you go faster when you run through it so you can also get from A to B a lot faster. Both the aiming mechanic and faster traversal speed are great additions to the core gameplay mechanics.
First Light isn’t the longest game, but most DLC really aren’t that long these days, so you can probably beat the entire game in 3 hours. If I had bought the game I might have felt a little cheated, since it is in the pricier end when it comes to DLC. But if you have PS Plus I will strongly encourage you to get the game right now and if you like it Infamous: Second Son is also pretty cool and also cheaper now. So it’s definitely not a bad experience and it’s a great appetizer if you still aren’t sure the full game is for you.
I give Infamous: First Light four stars out of five.
