Those games are fantastic and they are open world games with zero bugs. I wanna say the two infamous games are the most functional games of this generation. They worked from the start how awesome was that?
inFamous
A Sucker Punch-developed, Sony-published series of open world action platformers starring Cole MacGrath, a bike messenger given electrical superpowers in an accident.
I don't think the infamous games get enough credit.
While I don't think a game should necessarily be praised for not breaking, I do agree that both inFamous games are excellent, two of my favorite PS3 games.
I did not care for the way the engine pulls you towards objects to grab onto them. Like if you try to simply fall off of a building. And when I began dabbling with the mission creator in the second title, I became only more incensed. That same issue was breaking many of my ideas. Like a bridge that only appeared when you ran over it. The game would straight up have Cole run backwards even though you were pressing forward.
Those are 2 of my favorite games this gen. They're fantastic games and that's true. Besides what one duder above said about the platforming being weird sometimes, the game works great. inFAMOUS 1/2 are perfect superhero/villain games.
@JZ: You mean a straight up sequel or a new one, just completely different from Cole's story? Because inFAMOUS 2 ended perfectly and a sequel would kind of kill it.
Both were enjoyable, but both also had some pretty serious flaws.
Honestly, if not for the Sucker Punch pedigree, I don't think they would have gotten as much praise or attention as they did.
@JZ: I definitely had some bugs when I played them. When you meet John he's supposed to be under some rubble on a sidewalk or something like that if I remember correctly. I had him spawn underneath the conduit that is supposed to destroy the helicopter and instantly die. Try again, he spawned further back from where he is supposed to be and gets crushed when the helicopter crashes. And there is a mission where you follow Alsen to the trash tower and he didn't appear in the courtyard to trigger the battle with the conduit. In my opinion they are as good as they need to be to not be considered bad. They are good mid tier games. It would have been nice if the second one had any improvements.
@rentfn: I feel like infamous is a slow starter. Once you get to the point where you can grind wires or glide then moving around isn't as much of a chore and suddenly the game is ok.
I've played a ton of games this gen that haven't been broken.
Infamous is alright but just because it doesn't have a lot of bugs doesn't make it great.
If they would ditch the crappy good/evil aspect that is so pointless then it would be a much better narrative. If I remember correctly, at the end of Infamous 2 is basically gave you a completely contrived option to see the good and evil ending.
The gameplay is top notch tho. I downloaded Festive of Blood but haven't played much of it... need to get back inot that. The transforming into bats to get around teh city faster is a pretty awesome addition. They should just make that some sort of electrical power for him next time.
ahhh remember the days when it was Prototype vs Infamous and majority of people thought Infamous looked like shit and Prototype was more promising.... (For the record, I didn't.)
I thought there was something a little stiff and awkward about the first inFamous game; a lot of the combat missions were clunky. Also, talk about a morality system that they get very little out of. There were great aspects of the game - charging around the city on the railroad tracks was awesome - but it somehow felt like a game that was less than the sum of its parts. Story was pretty cheesy as well.
Sure, it wasn't broken, but inFamous felt too workmanlike, and in some ways that's way worse.
I think they get plenty. I remember the first being insanely buggy in places. NPC's were always freaking the fuck out.
Fuck, hearing any criticism for this game at all hurts my heart. I would rather no one talk about it all then to have them speak ill of it. inFamous one was great and inFamous 2 is my favorite game of this generation. I fucking love super heroes, and inFamous 2 fucking nailed it. The combat, the movement, the story, everything was executed beautifully. Playing this game on hard is the best. You will die in a few hits, RPGs and shotguns to the face are almost a guaranteed death and the enemies surround you. And yet you never feel like the fight is unfair. You have more then enough abilities to take them all out as you role around, dodge rockets and deal your brand of electric justice.
I think this game gets enough credit. Could it be bigger? Sure. But I honestly don't care if it isn't a household name like Mario or Angry Birds.
The one thing I never got over in the first inFamous was the character animations when they talked. It looks a lot like the Sly ones.
Also I thought the stories in both 1&2 made no fucking sense.
I think Infamous deserves props for having the stones to not turn itself into a trilogy like every other damn series out there and give itself a proper ending.
I totally agree. Got $7.00 for it even with the powerup bullshit card at gamestop a while back. Never again i said.
The part in the first game where you first get your lightning storm ability was generation-defining for me.
I'm a huge fan of both, but thought the story was much better in 1 than 2; although 2 was a much better playing game.
Those games are some of my favorite games on the PS3.
I never understood why no one ever hyped Sucker Punch. Both Sly Cooper and inFamous were fantastic sereis, but no one seems to care about what they are making. Which is probably gonna be something on the PS4.

Someone described to me that they were a cheap man's Insomniac. Sucker Punch never seemed to have had a large budget like Insomniac or Naughty dog. They've always had low production values and not a lot of marketing behind them.
I had a terrible time with the first game, so I'm probably in the minority of folks who feel as though they got a little too much credit.
@SethPhotopoulos: Well I'm just gonna say this, I think that Insomniac isn't nearly as good as they once were. At least, they're last few games weren't very interesting. And naughty dog and sucker punch at this point are so different, its hard to compare the two. Certainly, Sucker Punch works in a smaller budget, but say they are a poor mans insomniac/naught dog? I can kinda understand the ND comparison, if thinking of the past in how they're characters were similar, but now SP and ND are so different in what they make, and I just don't think insomniac is that great of company to call SP a poor mans version.

I'm not talking about now but back when they were the big 3 Sony platform companies that's what he meant. It was a conversation about Sly Cooper vs. Jak and Ratchet pre-current gen as I probably should have clarified. I'm saying it's a factor into why they didn't really take off the way ND and Insomniac did. They had low production values and nobody was willing to market Sly Cooper the same way that J&D and R&C were marketed.
Take it to next gen, inFamous had to go up against Prototype so any marketing done there was compromised. inFamous also had low production values. inFamous 2 did on a lot of the technical shortcomings of its prequel though. However a lot of people think that inFamous 2 is a lesser game than inFamous. Nobody even knows what Sucker Punch has been doing since Festival of Blood. I assume we'll find out this E3 and it's probably a launch title. Sly 4 is even coming out next month and they aren't developing it. They haven't really done much to stay fresh in people's minds. I'm not saying that they could do that since it might require multiple teams, something I'm not sure they have, but I'm saying this is why they haven't been hyped to the same degree as ND or Insomniac.
