Founded from ex 2015 members, Infinity Ward is a video game development company known for their work on the critically acclaimed Call of Duty franchise.
Infinity Ward was founded in 2002 by former employees from 2015 known for their work on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Infinity Ward was acquired by Activision in 2003. Their first game Call of Duty which was released in 2003 received critical acclaim from gamers, and reviewers alike and has won over 50 game of the year awards. Call of Duty 2 was released for both PC and Xbox 360 in 2005. Call of Duty 2 was the Xbox 360’s top selling games, and the first 360 game to reach over 1 million units sold. It was also the most played Xbox live game from November 2005 to April 2006. Call of Duty 4 was released in late 2007 on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. It was the first game in the series to leave World War 2, and enter the modern era. It is critically acclaimed and is said by many to be Infinity Ward’s best game, and the best game in the Call of Duty series. Call of Duty 4 is also one of the most played games on all platforms it was released on. Infinity Ward was named the best based game developer in Game Developer Research and Game Developer Magazine in 2008.
In November 2009 Infinity Ward released the much anticipated sequel to 2007's Call of Duty 4, titled Modern Warfare 2. It was the first direct sequel to a Call of Duty game, including many of the characters from the previous game. It has received widespread critical acclaim, with a Metacritic rating of 95. Reviewer Jeff Gertsmann wrote " If you've ever been interested in a first-person shooter, buy this game." Over 2 million players were classified on the Xbox 360 Multiplayer leaderboards within 24 hours of the game's release.
