Instant Kill

Whether it be a close up shotgun blast, far away sniper rifle, explosive, or backstab, the "one hit kill" is a popular kill strategy. Usually hard to master and even harder to avoid, the instant kill is loved and hated by gamers everywhere.

Concepts

Air Strike

Common in modern war video games, air strikes are usually used to take out big targets such as enemy vehicles or buildings. Laser designators are often used by the player to illuminate the target for a massive aerial attack. Bombs away!
Assassin

Assassins are people who are tasked with the action of violence against peoples, though their general aims are to be discreet and as minimally violent as possible in order to remain discreet if necessary.
Back Attack

Attacking the opponent when he is not aware of you granting you the first strike in a fight.
Backstab

Backstab is a skill utilized most commonly by rogues. By attacking from behind an opponent, backstabs significantly increase the damage dealt. Sometimes a backstab can mean a one hit kill.
Death

The main line of distinction between victory or failure in video games, death is the process of a biological being ceasing to be alive.
Death From Above

A type of technique in killing opponents in games through a vertical takedown with high risks and high satisfaction. First practised in the Mechwarrior franchise. Can also mean the usage of weaponry to rain devastation and mass death.
Execution

A fatal blow a player can give a downed opponent in Gears of War. Any move that kills the player while they are on the ground is considered an execution. The curb stomp is the most popular of these and is mapped to the X button. An execution can be compared to a fatality in Mortal Kombat.
Explosion

A powerful release of energy. This energy is usually expelled in all directions very quickly, typically giving off orange or red flames.
Golden Gun Mode

A multiplayer variant in which it is possible to acquire a special weapon that kills opponents with one shot no matter where they're hit or how much health they have. There is only one Golden Gun, and only way to acquire it after it's been found is to kill its wielder and claim it when it drops.
Greater Sphinxes

These seven enchanters help protect the seventh isle of the Plane of Sky. They each carry a replica of Veeshan, which can be used as a key to the eighth isle.
Grenade Tag

Seen in the Gears of War franchise. The act of sticking a grenade to another character in multiplayer inevitabley killing them.
Headshot

Most modern shooting games add the realistic touch of rendering shots to the cranium instantly fatal. Glorious for the shooter, kind of a bummer to the shootee.
Health

Health is a value that gauges how much damage players can take in a game before they die or pass out. Also known as life in some games. Health is usually represented by a bar or a percentage instead of an exact amount. Found in most non sport games
Heaven Smile

A terrorist organization made up of bizarre, humanoid beings who primarily use self-destruction as a weapon. The main enemy in "Killer7."
Instant Respawn

The player is respawned (or has the option to respawn) immediately following death, and with minimal lost progress and little to no break in the action. This concept is often seen used in difficult or fast-paced games where frequent player death is treated as a learning experience.
Murder

Murder is the act of ending the life of another living thing against its will without the sanction of a higher governmental authority, such as the casualties that result from acts of war. It is generally intentional, at least in a legal meaning, but not necessarily.
Party Leader Dies, Game Over

Everyone else can keel over as much as necessary, but if the party leader falls, it's game over. Sometimes this makes logical sense, like with perma-death battle systems. But more often then not the main character is one Phoenix Down away from a game over.
Screen Cleaner

An object that instantly kills all enemies seen on the screen. Example: The Serious Bomb from the Serious Sam games.
Stealth Kill

Stealth kills are special kills in video games that usually occur when the AI is not aware of the threat of the player.
Sticking

Sticking, also known as 'pegging' or 'tagging', refers to hitting someone with a form of sticky grenade in either multiplayer or single player.
Superweapon

A superweapon is a structure or character with amazing powers and amazing costs. This weapon can turn the battle to its owner's side single-handedly, but is usually the most expensive and time consuming to construct.

Tempura Wizards

In the same vein as Eggplant Wizards, Tempura Wizards can turn Pit into a bipedal piece of tempura shrimp.
Tonberry

A deceptively powerful enemy featured in many Final Fantasy games almost always wearing a brown cloak and equipped with a lantern and small knife. Infamous for being able to instantly KO one or all party members after slowly approaching them.
Trigen

Mutated mammals with incredible speed and strength, the result of genetic modification experiments.
Two-Piece

A term coined by Gears of War players online. The act of meleeing an opponent with your shotgun, and then immediately shooting them with the shotgun, usually killing them. If done correctly, it is more or less a two-shot kill and will leave you undamaged. It is a technique learned
