I won't be buying an ipad, but for gaming sites to ignore these devices would be incredibly stupid. The fact is, millions of people play (arguably bad) games on these things, and it's news worthy. So anyone complaining is stupid.
Millions of people play terrible Facebook games. I demand coverage and anyone who complains about it is dumb.
I don't 'get' tablets, they appear to be rather pointless to me. But hey, lots of people appear to dig them. For some reason.
I had to laugh at the quote on having more memory than a PS3 or 360. It has more memory than 6 year old devices! At least one of which was launched with memory that was pretty low even then! My phone, itself approaching a year old, has more memory than a PS3 or Xbox.
A more detailed explanation of why: It's 2012 y'all. One look at those 2006 specs and it's not insane in the least. More bits. More Haych-Dee.
Spoiler: After making the Infinity Blade it turns out you're the boss from the first game. TWIST! :D

@ELincoln: An iPad game was pretty prominent in the 2011 GOTY discussion, so it should probably be here.
Hey, I stopped listening after I got a massive Gears of War 3 spoiler.
What game was it?
Sword & Sworcery. But I wouldn't say it was "pretty prominent". One out of the five tried to shoehorn it onto the list. Frankly, I found it overrated.

the best part is that he put it at #4, yet he put Catherine #2 and let it go easily.

This is because He knew Jeff would never allow Catherine on to that list. Right or wrong, he knew he wouldn't win that battle, so he fought a different one.
I'm looking forward to your next article on that new calculator/Korean bootleg emulation machine/Windows tablet that gets released, since you can play games on those.
Oh, wait, no, that won't happen. Never mind.
I think the problem is that if you cover iPad games, there's a lot to cover. There are whole sites dedicated just to iOS gaming and it's something Giantbomb can never do without hiring more people, so any iPad coverage is always going to be bare-bones and I just don't come here for that.
Still waiting for iPad games that are actually worth a shit.
Even Android tablets have emulators and controller support.
Another excellent article by Engadget.com, a technology website, i'm glad I come here for all my technology news, oh wait.....i'm on GiantBomb, WTF!? Thanks Alex for showing us a device that plays "games" (I use that word loosely). I saw a new TV before that had card games built in to it, are you going to write up a story about that as well?.......Cue all the comments cursing me and defending Alex!
Currently reading this story on my iPad 2. It may be coincidental, but I'm suddenly furious that I only have an iPad 2. They're winning, guys. They're winning.
Jesus fucking Christ, people still complain about them mentioning that there'll (obviously) be a new iPad? Like it or not, millions play games on that thing, so it's newsworthy. It's not like they're going to cover many games on the device, but it's relevant for GB to mention it. You might not like Angry Birds and shit like that, but they're games and more and more developers are getting in on the money they can make on this and smartphones (like probably Jaffe will, among others. To just completely ignore it would be to ignore the biggest source of casual gaming, and that would just be lazy.
@andrewf87462: People aren't defending Alex here, they're defending common sense. Fact is that the iPad and similar devices are taking over more and more of the handheld market, and that developers see this as the gaming market with the most potential to grow (and it's, together with smartphones, by far the fastest growing gaming market right now). And why aren't Angry Birds etc. games? Of course they are, even if they're very simplistic. To argue that apps on the iPad are just "games" is like arguing that nothing as simplistic as Astroid etc. are games, and that's stupid.
And the reason why they cover this and not some TV with random built-in games? Popularity and impact on the market, obviously. I guess people get so pissy about this because they fear the impact the iPad will have on the more core games, if not they wouldn't really have cared about the device. I'm not a fan of the device, but it's without a doubt relevant for a site like GB.
One last thing, not everyone that vists GB.com also visits tested.com (GB has like six times the daily hits or something like that), so of course there's gonna be some overlap. GB can focus on the gaming on that device, tested will focus on it more generally while a site like Comic Vine might talk about the comic book apps on it.
People need to calm the fuck down.
It's not literally called "The New iPad". It's an iPad, and it's new. Ugh.
It certainly has the hardware to run some serious games, all they need is a well thought out control scheme.

Just furthering this point. They're calling it "the new iPad" because they are removing the numerical iteration with this device; just like other companies (namely Amazon) have done. It is the third generation iPad.
Pipin Pro atachment
3G vita + 16gb + 5games = price (this is where sony wins if it can get at least 5 games apealing to some one)
4g Ipad + 16gb + 30$ to spend on apps = price
This is based on Australian prices.
Apple need to release a offical analog atachment and foster 1st party games that use simulated WASD and the analog that clips into dock connector.
even if that attachment is only popular in japan... apple could take over the PSP space left there... and mabye bring that portable HARDCORE gaming to the masses.
Apple need to do this before Resistance BS or Call of Duty 2012 come out on PSV and make it sell like hot cakes.
SO they have till Nov or 72 days till Resistance BS comes out ,,, i hope they dont miss this boat... PSPs legacy might giggle last at apple.
Just look on youtube at all the PSV early adopters they are all the PVR COD guys.
Personally, I would really like to see more coverage of iPad games here. I've been playing Kingdom Rush and it's really great fun - definitely a solid TD game if you are into that sort of thing. It would help find some of the better stuff among the crap as well. I wonder if developers will take advantage of the New iPads graphics though - most iPad games are not exactly... demanding graphics wise.

It's not like we're trying to defend Alex, we're just pointing out that you don't properly think through things because you're unintelligent.
It still works, right (if it doesn't, and it's only 3 months old you should first call support, there should be a one year factory guarantee on it, and second, consider if it's worth buying one of their product ever again)? Why the necessity to always have the very latest thing?Well that sucks, my dad just bought iPad 2 to my mom for Xmas. :0

Would you just rather not have the story? It hardly takes anything away from the site by having more stories..
Why does the notion of more memory and resolution than a PS3 or 360 sound "insane"? HDTV is only 1920x1080 which is less than the new iPad's 2048x1536 resolution (by about 1 million pixels). And the time frame as far as deciding how much memory to use in the current generation of consoles would have been late 2004/early 2005. Considering it's now 2012 and the technology curve is ever changing quickly leaving "what's hot" in its wake in 2 years, it should not be surprising or "insane".
I have an iPad to use in the IT department at work whenever I want. I took it home for a week or two. It sat on a coffee table. At least it didn't take a lot of space doing so. I am not saying it's a useless device period, but it's useless to me. Between a gaming desktop, a laptop, and a smartphone, the iPad doesn't fit anywhere... not to mention I have a Vita. I would not be looking at getting an iPad for the intention of gaming. No way. I like buttons and analog sticks.
Some of you people are so fucking stupid. The iPad is a gaming device. This article clearly belongs on this website. And with that said: nice job on the article, Alex.
