I'm new to iOS, and I just got an iPhone for Christmas. So, what are the best iPhone games (free or paid)?
Just got an iPhone! What games should I get?
You should get Drop It In The Toilet and Sorry That's Not Covered Under Warranty.
You might get some more robust responses at the tested.com forums. Those duders are all about mobile tech, games included.
- Cut the Rope
- Angry Birds
- Tiny Wings
- Flight Control
- Fruit Ninja
- Infinity Blade
- Super Stickman Golf
- Dungeon Raid
- Geared 2!
- Implode XL
- Puzzle Agent
- Ragdoll Blaster 2
- Super Mega Worm
- Zen Bound
- Words with Friends
- Scribblenauts
- Peggle
- Plants VS. Zombies
- World of Goo
Obligatory Angry Birds.
Uhh...
Hmm...
Er...
Fruit Ninja?
Uhhhhhhhh....
The two Infinity Blades?
IB is pretty much the only iOS-exclusive thing on my iPod touch right now... I pretty much stopped getting things for iOS after I got my Android phone, and that amounted to getting Angry Birds again, Fruit Ninja again, and Words With Friends (because my friends finally roped me into it over this Christmas). The rest of my portable games are just emulated Nintendo classics on the 'droid.
The only games that made me eager to get my hands on my cousin's iPhone were Cut The Rope and Infinity Blade
Haven't seen these yet.
- Forget-Me-Not
- Tilt to Live
- Sword & Poker
- Spider Legend of Bryce Manor
- geoDefense and other games by same dude
- Games by RocketCat games (Hook Champ, SuperQuickHook, Hook World, Mage Gauntlet)
- Jetpack Joyride
- They Need to be Fed
- Sword & Sworcery
Rayman 2 is a great version on the ipod touch. Actually....as long as it really is the complete game, its possibly the best version out there. The pc framerate was capped at 30fps, and the iphone verson is 60fps. Sports some fancy new lighting too it seems.
Obviously the two infinity blades. I'd say spider man is pretty good for a short brawler. Gta3 seems alright? But for whatever reason, it has the ps2 controls. For that alone, I'd stick with the farrrr superior pc version any day. Sonic 4 and cd are great. That bruce lee game that was out for free, wasn't half bad actually. I'd have to say try out some first person shooters on the iphone. Most of them control sooo nice. Real racing 1 and 2 are amazing, and I think still are a 1$.
Though...I may be one of the few to say this, but stay away from street fighter 4. It runs at 20fps, no matter what model you have, and it just simply doesn't look good at all. For hardware that is actually pretty superior to the wii, I was expecting something half way decent at least. But instead, it felt more like a bad flash online game trying to copy the real deal.
One more thing...remember on the last full bombcast, that they said ridge racer vita only had 3 maps? Well...guess what? The iphone version is a port of the psp game, with...you guessed it. 3 whopping maps for 7$. Then you have to buy the outragous map packs. The framerate drags, not as graphically as good as the psp game, the controls just flat out don't work, AND- if you delete it off your ipod/iphone and put it back on later? You loose those map packs. HIGHLY advise even thinking about buying it.
Two I haven't seen mentioned yet, but are definitely worth checking out...
Mega Mall Story (think Game Dev Story mixed with Sim Tower [I actually like this more than game dev story]) and SpellTower (boggle meets the falling block puzzle format [the new hotness of word-games]).
First of all, App Store is packed full of games that entertain you for few minutes but are ultimately unforgettable. Keep checking under Categories / Games / All Games / Free, usually in the top 5 there is daily some priced game free for that day.
As said, easy to kill few minutes with -games there are alot, but following games have actually made me waste hours away:
- Game Dev Story
- Jetpack Joyride ( Free as of writing this )
- Peggle
- Civilization Revolutions
game dev story, mega mall story, grand prix story, dungeon raid, infinity blade, infinity blade 2, sword & sworcery (make sure you have headphones if you do play though), civilization revolution, jet pack joyride, words with friends, groove coaster, skee-ball, bejeweled 3, plants vs zombies, angry birds, shibuya. those are my game suggestions. take some time to get fully used to your new phone with what all it can do and know that new apps are released usually on thursdays though not always. thursdays are usually when apple refreshes their app database. tuesdays with music and movies. hope you enjoy your new iphone.
Recommend:
- Tiny Wings.
- Jetpack Joyride.
- Game Dev Story.
- Temple Run.
- Fruit Ninja.
I know a lot of people love Angry Birds, but I've never really understood that. An interesting game, but I found it gets boring rather fast.
There's so many excellent games on iOS you're bound to find something you enjoy. Like others have said, take a look at the App of the Day stuff over on Tested.com, and also browse TouchArcade.com where they do a pretty good job of curating some of the best apps.
Personally I like games I can pick up for 60 seconds, play, and put down again - so from the games I've been playing recently I'd suggest:
- Jetpack Joyride
- Tiny Wings
- Wind-up Knight
- Drop7
- Ticket to Ride
- Muffin Knight
- Trainyard
- SpellTower

None. There are no good games on the iphone.I just gave a comprehensive list, watcha talking about?
If that's the case, the problem is not the iPhone, nor the games available, but rather: your taste.
Assuming that you have an innate hatred of mobile gaming, what about console/handheld experiences at a fraction of the price? Scribblenauts (99 cents), Peggle ($3), and Plants vs. Zombies ($3) are all on there--almost identical to their more expensive counterparts.
