It's hard to appreciate cool paint jobs during races, so this thread will be a nice way to do that.
I'll start it off with my new Red Bull New York Skippy (to go along with my RBNY RUF, LM and SM.. yep, supporting my team!):
Game » consists of 0 releases. Released Aug 26, 2008
I have a few that I'm proud of. Some I've already posted but this seems a better place to put them.
Robotech / Macross inspired VF-1S Star Mazda
My Little Ruf : Rainbow Dash themed Ruf
Meister : Jazz (G1) themed Ruf
Skywarp : Seeker Jet Skywarp (G1) themed Skip Barber
Lastly, my Brock Samson themed MX-5
So is anyone else playing dressup with the Star Mazda since the changes? I'm still new to GIMP and extremely new to car design in general, so I was more worried about learning how to do new things than making a good design (the ad's are also positively random) so I'll be re-making it from scratch this weekend. That said, I think i'll just clean up the helmet a little and keep it as I like the design. I'm finding the most difficult and time consuming part is trying to remove some of the jaggedness of the designs. The only real solution i've come up with is a sort of manual anti-aliasing approach (you can see it in the third picture) but its time consuming to make it not look overly horrible.
but i'm curious if the changes have spurred anyone else to design the SM.
I love these car painting threads and spent hours combing through Forza 4's website looking at awesome designs. Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with here.
Friday night so I had some free time, decided to repaint the car. This time rather than use a pre-made iracing design I made this one from scratch. I decided to make the ads a bit more accurate and cohesive. Rather than the hodge podge of Android, nexus, and T-mobile I went with a single-sponsor logitech car. I also changed Castrol to Sunoco as the latter is used for fuel in real life Pro Mazda. I decided to leave the rear wing the same. Also I learned that the slogan of Logitech is "Science Wins." Never knew that one.
Anyway, do you guys prefer the first or second design? I'm leaning slightly towards the latter, but still undecided. The helmets are interchangeable.
Sadly, the horrible compression of TGA leaves me twitching at any close-up shots.
@kherven: It isn't the TGA compression. If you view the saved file it isn't that blocky. I believe there is a setting in graphics or in replay that lets you run higher quality car paints. I don't remember what it is but it seems to help. Are you using the Ctrl-Shift-PrintScreen combination for the shots? It seems to render better than most other methods...
Also look at how you are masking around the Mazda logo, it looks worse than it should. I believe it is in the color change logos layer and maybe it got messed up a little bit.
Of the two I think I prefer the android theme.
Thanks for the info on the blockiness. I checked my graphics settings and from what I can see everything is on the absolute highest settings possible. To take the screenshots I use FRAPs but it looks the same as in game. I don't know exactly whats going wrong with the layers but no matter what I try nothing seems to help it.
Looking at the iRacing supplied template alone, it appears to really look no better. I could be missing a detail you're talking about. And here is what graphics settings I have on:
@kherven: I could have been remembering something wrong. I do have the 2048x2048 Car Textures checked but honestly it doesn't make much difference in testing. I did play around with the ctrl-shift-printscreen vs fraps and again that didn't help either.
So, ignore what I said.... Your photos are fine. =)
I believe you have to change a line in the renderer.ini file:
CompressTexturesCars=1 ; 0=uncompressed (warning! no!!) 1=block compress (highly recommended)
Obviously, the "warning! no!!" means you shouldn't be racing with uncompressed textures. It's nice for painting your car, though, and making pretty screenshots. :)
I spent about 4 hours working on my first ever custom livery last night. I chose the Star Mazda, which was definitely a challenge. I think it turned out alright. The main sponsor is Sacramento Republic FC, my local professional soccer/football club.
@thesupernatural: Looks good!
@mouse: I believe that we will win!
@mouse: I might have to create a Sounders or Sacramento Republic RUF scheme to compete :P
@thesupernatural: The more soccer themed cars (especially MLS), the better! A green/white Sounders car would actually be pretty nice looking.
Here's what the Team Slowpoke is most likely going to look like. I've got a couple tweaks to make, and 2 different wing colors to separate me and Connor.
@thesupernatural: Nice! Glad we've got a pink team!
Here's @hayfourzee and my paint (revised from the previous version):
@mouse: Looking good! It's gonna be sweet seeing the grid Saturday night :)
I've decided I'll be buying the RUF and Chevy B Class for the other two series. I won't be in that many of the BOMBCAR races, but I should be attending most of the GBGT ones. Gotta get my RUF livery set up now
Well, this will be my first season in FD without a pink livery. Here is the Team Australia (working title) livery:
Still going pink for BOMBCAR and GBGT, though :D
So I did some tweaking and put together a couple of patterns for the Team Slowpoke FD liveries. We'll be using up some pink @khann :)
Here's the link to the album, too lazy to individually link 4 images
@thesupernatural: Good to know the pink will still be around :D
@slowbird: I actually think that Bayonetta 2 paint scheme is pretty cool. I'll likely have something custom when I finally get into a BOMBCAR race with you guys
To get your paint to show up, just go to the trading paints website and upload your Monster .tga file! It should give you a (sorta) preview of the paint scheme when you upload it. It might take a little while to update though.

So I figured I should update my liveries and learn the BMW template so I made a GBeast paint for the BMW GT3.
Let me know if you'd like one with your name on it. Now that I have this one down I can do more in this color highlight style with different graphics too. There are still some parts that I haven't figured out where they are on the template but this works for me.
I uploaded generic versions of the BMW GBeast car and the Chevy Gen 6 Luchadeer to tradingpaints.com if anyone wants to run them.
EDIT: Since it won't let me post another reply, I'll just edit this one.
I made an Alt-F1 design you can now find on trading paints.
EDIT2: Another round of edits for a new paint. Tested.com Also up on tradingpaints.
EDIT 3: Here's a GBeast version for the McLaren. Also on trading paints.
Added a couple more GBeast paint jobs to trading paints.

I've been playing a bit of Monster Hunter lately and the new audi has some big side panels that I thought would look cool with monsters on it. Trading Paints
