Jak is left stranded in the desert by the new ruler of Haven City , and on a quest for revenge and redemption.
Setting
Like the first two, Jak 3 takes place in an un-named fictional universe created by Naughty Dog specially for the games. The game is set around 500 years after the events of the first game, and a couple of months after the second. Jak 3 largely focuses on the Wasteland, a large desert only briefly referred to in the previous entry in the series as being completely uninhabited and inhospitable.Sparagus City, a large settlement within the Wasteland bordering the ocean, is where the game officially begins, and serves as a hub for the player, where new weapons and upgrades can be earned, and most missions are given out. Later on, the plot shifts focus to , a sprawling metropolis which was the central locale in Jak II, though the size of the area is only a fifth of the Wasteland. Some levels from the previous game are radically altered or removed entirely, while others are added, branching off from Spargus and the Wasteland rather than from Haven.
Gameplay
Like jak 2, the gameplay of Jak 3 is a mix of platforming, driving, and gun combat. The player is led through the story as they complete missions, assigned by the various characters in the game. Missions can consist of anything from defeating particular enemies, reaching a specific location, or completing a puzzle. With the exception of timed or otherwise linear missions, the player is free to explore the game world as they see fit. Special machines set up around the levels also assign short, non-plot-related tasks; completion of these goals will reward the player with Precursor Orbs, which can then be used to purchase cheats.
Cheats, made available as the player progresses, can upgrade weapons, flip the game world around into a mirror image of itself, or grant the player invincibility. After the game has been completed, the Hero Mode option is made accessible, which, when purchased, allows the player to re-play the game at a harder difficulty level. As Precursor Orb count is not reset, and the orbs are regenerated at their original locations, the player is able to re-gather orbs that he or she had already collected the previous time they played through the game. Collecting all 600 Precursor Orbs has some cosmetic effects on Jak's appearance, but has no effects other than this. In Hero Mode, Jak also keeps all twelve of his weapons. There are some differences between Jak 3 and Jak II. Most notably are the changes undergone by the environments. While Jak II provided the player with four different types of guns, Jak 3 expands on the concept with two additional modifications for each type, ending with a total of twelve weapons. Also, the 'Dark Jak' form, introduced in Jak II, which allowed the player to transform into a more powerful version of Jak, is countered by a 'Light Jak' form that mainly focuses on defensive abilities, such as slowing time and gliding.
Plot
The game opens with Jak and Daxter being banished into the Wasteland by the tyrannical Count Veger for supposed crimes against Haven city. As they begin to succumb to the heat
of the desert, they are rescued by a group of desert-dwellers, who take them back to the city of Sparagus .Upon their arrival in Spargus, Damas, the king, demands that Jak serve him in return for allowing Jak to remain in the city and to repay the debt for saving his life. During one of Damas' missions, Jak is found by Ashelin, who begs him to come back to to defend it from the Metal Heads and the new Krimzon Guard Deathbots. Still embittered about being exiled, he refuses to return. Ashelin leaves him, but later, Jak changes his mind and makes the journey via transport to Haven city. Jak and Daxter help reunite the resistance in Haven and give them hope that they can beat back the Metal Heads and KG Deathbots.
Partway through the game, Jak and Daxter start to encounter strange creatures. A Precursor telescope in the outskirts of reveals that the beings are Dark Makers, who were once Precursors, but exposure to Dark Eco transformed them into twisted beings. Jak finds that a purple star in the sky is actually a Dark Maker space ship, and it is nearing the planet. The only way to stop the ship is to activate the
planetary defense system situated at the core of the planet. During an attack on the Krimson Guard War Factory, Jak finds that Errol, a character thought to have been killed in the previous game, survived as a cyborg and is leading the Deathbots. It's also revealed that Errol is the one calling the Dark Makers. Jak destroys the KG War Factory, but Errol manages to escape. With the destruction of the Metal Heads and Deathbots in , Jak and Daxter begin their trek to the Planet Core. They are aided by Damas, who helps them break through the Metal Head territories. Damas is killed in the attack, and with his dying breath he unintentionally reveals that he is Jak's father; he also reveals that Jak's true name is Mar, named after the founder of Haven city. They are then ambushed by Count Veger, who is detained by a small group of Precursors, revealed to be Ottsels like Daxter. The Precursors send Jak and Daxter to the Dark Maker Ship to slow it down while the planetary defense system charges. The mission is a success, but Errol, who boarded the ship using a Warp-Gate, takes a Dark Maker Vehicle and pilots it down to the planet's surface. Jak follows, and after a battle, the robot and Errol are destroyed.
After a celebration in , the Precursors bid farewell to the planet and go out into the universe to combat the Dark Makers. Jak is offered a place in their ranks, but he declines.
Weapons
Scatter Gun-
The Scatter Gun is a good short-range weapon that can take out multiple enemies with its wide field of fire. Its ideal for shooting large groups of slow enemies at close range, but has a painfully slow reload time. However, in both Jak II and Jak 3 the rate of fire can be upgraded.
Ammo cap
acity: 50, upgradeable to 100 in Jak II, 200 in Jak 3.
Wave Concussor-
The Wave Concussor releases an energy shock wave that radiates from where Jak is standing. The longer the shot is charged, the greater the radius. A fully charged shot requires 5 ammo.Ammo capacity: 75
Plamite RPG-
The Plasmite RPG, also known as Rocket Propelled Grenade, shoots out a powerful grenade that can bounce off walls. The grenade explodes after a short period of time, or when it comes into contact with an enemy, and is great for firing around corners. The grenades should be used sparingly, as it chews up 10 ammo per shot. However, as with most weapons in Jak 3, it can be upgraded to only use up eight ammo per shot.
Ammo capacity: 100
Blaster-
The Blaster is an impressive all around weapon with a solid rate of fire and is ideal for any combat. Has the longest range of all of Gun Mods. It also has a laser sight that can help target enemies from far away.Ammo capacity: 100, upgradeable to 200, 300 in Jak 3.
Beam Reflexor-
The Beam Reflexor is essentially the same as the Blaster, only its shots can ricochet off walls. These bouncing shots can be particularly lethal against enemies in narrow corridors or other confined spaces. Each shot still only uses 1 ammo capacity, but for each enemy a bouncing shot hits it takes another one ammo capacity. Ammo capacity: 150Gyro Burster-
The Gyro Burster releases a hovering drone from an electrified rail that continuously scans the fire area and fires endlessly destroying everything that is hit. It chews up 50 ammo each use and can be upgraded to last longer and still use just 50.
Ammo capacity: 200(4 actual shots)
Vulcan Furry-
The Vulcan Fury has a shorter range than the Blaster and is slightly weaker, but benefits from a much higher rate of fire. Like the Blaster, the Vulcan Fury is equipped with a laser sight to help get a bead on long-range targets. The gun needs two seconds to get to full speed and, when at full speed, it can chew up ammo rather quickly.Ammo capacity: 100, upgradeable to 200 in Jak II, 300 in Jak 3.
Arc Wielder-
The Arc Wielder emits a thick, continuous stream of electricity. This beam can be swept side to side to clear out a room full of enemies. Use with caution because it uses up ammo quickly. It also won't completely lock on so you can still target something in the air from the ground but you can turn it and sweep the beam with out it staying fixed to a single target.
Ammo capacity: 150
Arc Wielder-
The Needle Lazer emits clusters of heat-seeking Vulcan bolts that can track enemies. It also chews up ammo really fast because it takes 2 ammo per shot, but with upgrades this can be changed to 3 ammo for every 2 shots.
Ammo Capacity: 200
Peace Maker-
The Peace Maker is a lethal weapon that fires electrically charged particles. If multiple enemies are within range, the electricity will arc and separate, targeting all in its path. The energy shot will also home in on a target and the gun has a laser sight. You can also charge the shot but that just saves the shot, rather than adding any damage to it. The gun has an odd feature on top of the barrel in that it seems to have a mounted metal head skull.Ammo capacity: 5, upgradeable to 10 in Jak II, 20 in Jak 3
Mass Inverter-
The Mass Inverter unleashes radiating waves of energy with and anti-gravity after effect around Jak that will cause other characters, enemies, and objects to float up helplessly in the air. While it does not harm victims until they fall, it leaves them vulnerable to attack by Jak.
Ammo capacity: 10
Super Nova-
The Super Nova releases a miniaturized nuclear bomb that will destroy everyone on screen (except Jak and Daxter). EDIT: Not just on the screen but everything within a large radius around you. It normally uses 10 ammo but with upgrades it only chews up 8 ammo.
Ammo capacity: 15
