The amount of publicity being pumped into this game is baffling me, it just looks like a run of the mill movie game that has the possibility to reach average quality. It's of course based off of a James Cameron film, and that guy knows how to make money from films, but surely this isn't going to be a big seller for ubi other than a possible top spot for a week.
So is anyone actually excited about the game?
James Cameron's Avatar: The Game
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Dec 01, 2009
Set two years before the James Cameron film of the same name, Avatar: The Game takes place on Pandora, a gas giant's moon, and pits the merciless humans against Pandora's natives, the Na'vi.
Does anyone actually care about this game?
So uh. So here's what happened. Some producer gave Cameron a ton of money and said "make a blockbuster, we trust you" and he made a bunch of furries fighting space marines, and by the time production found out the investment was already made. And now they're desperate to sell this shit sandwich and hopefully make up for the 500 mil investment. And the game is part of that.
And it does nothing for me, but if all they show in the preview are Space Marines shooting alien monsters they can maybe trick a bunch of bros into trying it out.
Doubt it. It looks like what I would expect a sci-fi TPS to look like.
My favourite part is when they put the "actual game footage" note on the videos. The game doesn't look bad by any means, but come on, it's not anything mindblowing

Seems like it should with the same title and everything. I like that cartoon, it was entertaining for a children's program. I'd do some righteous Airbending, that's all I know.
just about as much as i care about Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Snow Princess.
Which seems mildy interesting...
I heard on the Rooster Teeth podcast that the budget for this movie is above $500,000,000. That's half a billion dollars. Even if the movie is the higest grossing film of all time, it'll still turn a profit of like $30,000,000 max (and the chances of that are slim, I've heard from only a few people who are generally excited about the movie.) Of coarse, this is comming from the mind of Cameron, so who knows? He did it once, he may do it again. I know I'll end up seeing it if only to know what a half-billion dollar movie looks like.
I didn't judge the game when I first heard about because SOMETIMES movie games surprise you but once the videos of hands on stuff came out I have written this game off as complete and utter shit but I do wanna see the movie its James Fucking Cameron for crying out loud and its got Sigourney Weaver in it! I just wish there was an IMAX around here cause that is going to be the way to watch that movie, might have to make a special trip to Atlanta!

Like they said on their podcast James Cameron does not make bad movies, but this game is gonna suck ass.

"that bullshit the movie's budget was $230 million. the if you throw in the amount of other things involved in marketing and other stuff it all ends up costing close to $500million. its still crazy but its not unlike a lot of movies.
this movie just had a big marketing blitz but really kind of faded now. but come december its all you're going to here about.
anyways, i think these devs for this game may be the same guys responsible for King Kong, and Weta and Peter Jackson did a great job at making sure that game was awesome (untill the ending that is).
I am totally looking forward to this game i think it will surprise people.
uh, no, the Iron Man game was a garbage movie tie in. they are obviously taking this game pretty serious especially by releasing these little featurettes to show off the game. how many other devs do that at all?! especially for games based on movie?!?!" No, its just a garbage movie tie in..and its obvious the any piece of gameplay you could look at. No matter how they try and pitch it. Even if I cared a single bit about the movie, this game still looks awful, but I definitely dont. "
like i said, these people made King Kong. which at first looked so-so, then people played it and it was sublime. that game was awesome.
i think Avatar will be great. i look forward to this game!
Not really. It seems to be getting a lot of attention, though. Maybe it'll be good, but unless it gets some solid review scores, I definitely won't give it the light of day.
I don't know exactly who, outside of furries, it is that wants to root against a bunch of furry alien tree-huggers over humanity, but they should be hanged for treason.
Just like to point out there has been some amazing Video Game Movies release despite everyones belief.
James Bond: Goldeneye
The Chronicles of Riddick: ButcherBay
Starwars: Battlefront 1 & 2
LOTR: Triology Games
Lego Starwars
This is not going to be one of thoughs garbage games that are quickly made to be realised with a movie. They've had plenty of time to work on it, they were able to create their own story instead of being tied down to the story of the movie, and even if the graphics look a little warn in some spots! Graphics aren't everything and supposidly the 3D graphics work really well. Tobad you need 3D specific TV. Something which less than 10% of people have currently.
" @SolemnOaf said:No. Avatar (the movie) is an original IP by James Cameron. Avatar (the TV show) is an anime from Nickelodeon." Here I had thought it was a more mature take on Avatar: The Last Airbender. Learn something new everyday. "Wait there is more than one Avatar? or this movie has nothing to do with that show? "
It's confusing, and James Cameron's movie should have a different name because it causes confusion with Avatar (the TV show), and they had the name first.
Also, the movie based on the TV show had to be renamed The Last Airbender, just because of James Cameron.
may check it out. don't care about it though. it has pretty damn good looking graphics though, they used the Far Cry 2 engine. thats like the only reason i'll check it out.
Not the game nor the movie.
Seems like another overhyped blockbuster flick that's destined to flop hard.
After watching the quick look, I realized that the premise of the movie and game is very poorly constructed. A guy gets into a pod to be projected into another pod in the exact same place, at the exact same time, in the exact same situation. It leads me to think that the people behind these projects don't really understand the concept of an avatar.
It's more like mighty morphin kitty rangers.
