There was a rematch with Souza for the vacated middleweight belt, the fight ended in a no-contest after an illegal soccer kick to the head from Miller. They agreed to a re-match but it never materialised and Jason has voiced his dislike of Souza several times calling him a "vagina-head" on twitter after the fight. His next fight was for the Strikeforce middleweight title against Jake Shields, Miller entered the ring with a traditionally flashy entrance with girls dancing on the ramp, Shields out wrestled Miller for most of the fight though he almost finished Jake with a rear naked choke at the end of the second round.

After the event Miller apologised for his actions, saying that he made a mistake to interrupt Shields victory speech but he blamed Nick Diaz for over-reacting. Miller was fined, pulled out of his scheduled bout with Robbie Lawler, banned from fighting on CBS ever again and as a result was later signed back to the UFC.
