commentary for the king of the cage promotion, has opened on stage for stand up comedians and used to write articles for FIGHT! magazine. He is good friends with
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as he used to live in his van a street away from Jackson and would pick him up to take him training, on the
Joe Rogan podcast he talked about telling Rampage that he could be MR T. Miller is known for his personality as much as his fights, often having elaborate entrances, posing in the ring and doing over the top karate celebrations. Jason's father was a
boxer and army ranger, he and Jason would often spar for fun, one such session when they were wrestling in the kitchen ended with "Mayhem" going unconscious, falling into the fridge and waking up covered in condiments. He has travelled the world and stayed in
Hawaii,
Japan and
Australia, he didn't buy a house until he turned 30 years old previously living almost exclusively out of hotels and his van. Miller got his nickname from a friend after he was told that he had zero attention span, he also calls his fans the "Mayhem Monkeys" and calls them members of his cult.
MMA
Jason opened his MMA career with a 10-3 record including a loss to Todd Carney and then rebounded by beating him in his next fight. In this opening run he had wins over notable fighters such as Tony Imada,
Denis Kang and losses to Tim Kennedy and Chael Sonnen. In his 14th fight he took on Hawaiian legend and Brazilian ju-jitsu
black belt Egan Inoue in a superbrawl fight in Hawaii. The crowd heavily booed "Mayhem" but he managed to win the fight be beating Inoue down, Miller showed amazing flexibility defending a deep kimura during the fight where it looked like his arm was close to breaking. In his next fight at superbrawl he fought Ronald Jhun for the championship and won with an arm-triangle submission, after the fight a riot broke out and a fellow fighter Mark Moreno sucker punched him in the back of the head, setting up a grudge match for the future.
After his title win at superbrawl, Mayhem made his UFC début againt rising star and former title contender
Georges St. Pierre and convincingly lost the fight. Many years later when Georges was accused of being greased up in his second fight with
B.J. Penn, Mayhem talked about how slippy he was in their fight and said he even protested to the ref during the fight. Jason had his grudge match with Moreno, as he locked up the armbar to finish the fight he threw up a shaka sign to the crowd and then taunted Moreno after the fight by hitting himself on the back of the head. After another winning streak he faced Robbie Lawler in ICON sports for the belt and won it with an arm-triangle. In his first defence in the same year he lost to Frank Trigg in a fight he was heavily favoured to win. Jason appeared on the internet saying that he was getting cocky and would not lose his next fight, he defeated Hector Urbina by TKO in the first round.
Jason "Mayhem" Miller lost a bout against
Ronaldo Souza in which he defended submissions for most of the bout, with this loss he was eliminated from the DREAM middleweight GP. There was a rematch with Souza for the vacated middleweight belt, the fight ended in a no-contest after an illegal soccer kick to the head from Miller. They agreed to a re-match but it never materialised and Jason has voiced his dislike of Souza several times calling him a "vagina-head" on twitter after the fight. His next fight was for the Strikeforce middleweight title against Jake Shields, Miller entered the ring with a traditionally flashy entrance with girls dancing on the ramp, Shields out wrestled Miller for most of the fight though he almost finished Jake with a rear naked choke at the end of the second round.
On April 17 2010 Mayhem defeated Tim Stout by TKO. Later in the night after Jake Shields defeated
Dan Henderson in the main event Miller stormed the ring interrupted Jake's interview and asked "where's my rematch, buddy?" A brawl then broke out live on CBS after
Gilbert Melendez shoved him and
Nick Diaz threw the first punch to kick the brawl off. Many members of Ceaser Gracie's team knocked Miller to the ground and Nick Diaz was seen to kick him in the head, the brawl was eventually broke up by members of Henderson's camps and ringside officials. After the event Miller apologised for his actions, saying that he made a mistake to interrupt Shields victory speech but he blamed Nick Diaz for over-reacting. Miller was fined, pulled out of his scheduled bout with Robbie Lawler, banned from fighting on CBS ever again and as a result was later signed back to the UFC. Him and Nick Diaz have had a beef with each other ever since the brawl in the
octagon and a match was in the works to be set up but never materialised.
