Jason Rohrer has published articles for The Escapist online magazine in 2008, in a feature called Game Design Sketchbook. For the feature, Rohrer has written several prototype games, each with a central, often poignant theme. Each game is accompanied by an article detailing his creative process.
Currently, he is working on a strategy game for the Nintendo DS, to be published by Majesco. This will be his first retail game to be sold as physical copies, unlike his current titles.
However, he also depends on user donations, as all but one of the games he has made so far, Sleep is Death, are open sourced and free to download.
His family currently lives off a budget of $14,500 per year, as part of an experiment he calls "Voluntary Simplicity."
