So with Jeff topping the podcast charts I've been thinking.
I don't really know anyone who goes out of his way to prove a point like Jeff does... He really is impressive.
I mean this is stuff that everyone knows but I just wanna say it again.
He does a review for Kane and Lynch and basically gives it a fair review, and says it is SHIT with some good ideas in it.
Can we finally admit that he got fired for it? Because he did. He did something that was harder for him to prove a point. Mad props.
Then he takes it a step further and with the help of some great duders he sets up Giant Bomb which can we say is a great success? A direct and polite "fuck you" to his former job.
Every so often he plays terrible games like DCU and Tron (k maybe not terrible but not great) and others, and he plays them till no one can dispute that he has gotten the full experience and then gives his verdict. Now that is dedication... we rarely see that.
Then skip ahead to a less dramatic thing but still cool. A minority of users bitch about the Nintendo download segment. Ryan and whoever else decided to be queer and get rid of it. Jeff decided to give another direct and polite "fuck you" and start a new podcast alongside the regular podcast.
And it freaking blew up! And it's awesome so far! Wasn't it #10 OVERALL in podcast land?
Mad props to Jeff.
Anyone else agree? He doesn't seem to back down.

I've been thinking about Jeff...
I wouldn't say the NDX is going out of his way to make a point. I'd call it going out of his way to do something dumb, and making it funnier than anyone else could.
And I wouldn't call creating Giant Bomb going out of his way to make a point, I'd call it going out of his way to find a new job to pay the mortgage.

It's pretty much understood that Jeff got dropped because of things surrounding Kane & Lynch. Making GiantBomb was just something he did to make money and continue doing what he knew. The NintenDownload X-press is clearly just an extended joke and not something worth getting worked up about either way.
Jeff is a pretty cool guy, but don't go out of your way to make him an idol.
And this is his reward for all his hard work. A bunch of dudes on a website thinking about him all day. Congratz Jeff.
Yeah, man. Jeff is like my messiah. A true Hero, Legend - a Gift from God, a basket of fresh fruit, a 3 dollar bill a... fuck, he's alright I guess.
Truth be told, I don't share many of his opinions regarding a lot of things, and his taste with games is at times the polar opposite of mine. He has a good sense of humour, at least.

Yeah, that Halo:Reach coverage of his was awesome. Jeff's a cool guy, he's pretty funny, and he's got some insight into the game industry. He's got cool ideas for this website, and he didn't bow down to publisher pressure for K&L. He's not the best reviewer or writer by a long shot (on GB it's probably Brad), but he's definitely created a niche for himself. Let's not go overboard." As far as Video game reviewers go... Yea he is pretty much the best. "
He did NDX as a joke, taking it too far because it would be funny. He created Giant Bomb because he needed a job and the main reason it became successful so quickly was because he had publicity from the Eidos controversy and 1UP dissolved soon after (that's where I came from). The DCU and Tron situations were him proving a point or showing up his friend.
I like Jeff, but take his dick out of your mouth.
Jeff is a really good journalist with his integrity. I always hear him mention both sides of something when it's on reviews or QLs and is a major component of why I like this site so much.
He's also very dismissive of anything he doesn't like.
That said, in the last 6-9 months, Jeff has been growing on me more and more. Jeff, Vinny and Dave are the reasons I come to this website.
Long live... this website?
"is he the fat guy with the beard? "
You have over 2000 posts so you must come here quite a bit, how do you not know who is who.
I agree with the OP, it seems that Jeff always has a primary concern when reviewing, which is how FUN it is to play. But he is also aware of what could make the game better with his deep understanding of game mechanics.
What I'm saying is, he dissects games with a surgeons precision, but he never looses focus on the fun factor.
You serious? He had to force himself to play through DCU because a review of the game needed to go on the site. I find it laughable that you're revering him for playing through a game and giving it a review like any competent reviewer would." @Khann: Not really, like I said he plays things he doesn't like for way to long to prove a point. DCU for example. Also, yea Vinny is underrated. He is a FUNNY dude. "
Also, you must be extremely naive if you think he created GB just to say "Fuck you" to GameSpot. The guy was out of a job, and creating a website with a big fan base behind him and some of other GS guys was a smart business move.
