So my school library has access to a database where you can search the archives of thousands of newspapers from across the country.

So I got bored and searched "Jeff Gerstmann" and found this:

It looks like Jeff was interviewed in 1995 by the Miami Herald:

I cannot picture nineteen year-old Jeff.

#8 Posted by Flappy (2032 posts) -

That's a pretty nice find. It's a bit hard to imagine Jeff at 19 years old, though.

Looks like Jeff owes a lot to this Glenn fellow.

Prepare to be blown away by...

16 year old Gerst

What was Jeff doing in Miami?

Online

Well, this is already fantastic, since Blaster was the magazine that Jeff worked at that folded within months (leading to him joining Gamespot). Also young Jeff was apparently a graphics whore, kinda like modern Brad.

@Aegon:

Holy fucking shit.

#20 Posted by Flappy (2032 posts) -

@Aegon: Shiiiiiiiiiiiiet. That's one fresh-faced Gerst.

Man, it's weird reading that knowing that he is color-blind.

Yeah young Jeff is alright but it ain't no young Ryan.

Ryan "Mork" Davis

Plus young Jeff's hair is not made of crazy.

@Pr1mus: Fuck no way is that Ryan?! I mean you can see Jeff in 16 year old Jeff but shit young Ryan looks nothing like current Ryan in anyway

#25 Posted by Pr1mus (3512 posts) -

@Khemitude: Yeah that's really him. He posted the picture himself on twitter some times ago. I think the story was that it was taken at a show with Jeff's band or something.

#26 Posted by Khemitude (221 posts) -

@Pr1mus: Fuck man! Good to know that they knew each other before gamespot or whatever though explains the rapport they have between each other more than just being co-workers for years.

DAT CRISP SOUND.

#28 Posted by Patman99 (1543 posts) -

I wonder if young Jeff liked half stars....

Good to see Jeff was always a BOSS

Jeff had never been to Miami until Captivate 2011 IIRC, as described on the April 11, 2011 three man bombcast. I'm sure the Miami Herald just called him because they wanted to run a story about the game those crazy kids were playing.

#35 Posted by Benny (1936 posts) -

Well he still highly values all of those things. He always remarks when shooters have "Good weapon reports" for example, and I agree, it certainly sets Battlefield apart from similar shooters.

#36 Edited by Funkydupe (3293 posts) -

and I hope he can stay doing this for a long time still. He is a true veteran.

Also: Crisp sound as in how the Chivalry yelling and cries of pain made him smile.

#37 Posted by Neurotic (629 posts) -

Wow, Jeff has been doing this for a while. Judging by that picture of him when he's 16, he's been doing it since before I was born. That's pretty crazy.

Jeff Gerstmann is eternal.

#39 Posted by CaLe (3678 posts) -

Jeff got in on the ground floor and has been taking the elevator all the way to the top ever since.

Seriously? I think if you shave Ryan's beard it looks like he's barely changed since then.

Ryan Davis was dressed like Pee Wee crossed with Dr. Jacoby

Damn! Jeff rocking a sport coat!? I have only ever seen him wear long sleeved track jackets.
