17-year veteran Jeff Green is leaving the editorial side of the industry to join the Sims team at EA. Any thoughts? Does anyone else care?
This is kind of bumming me out, because he was an integral part of arguably the best video game podcast, GFW Radio.
(1UP story)
Jeff Green
Jeff Green is a consultant for Hit Detection. Former editor-in-chief of EA.com and an Associate Producer in the Sims team. Previously, Jeff was the editor-in-chief of GFW magazine, and following the magazine's closure, the editor-in-chief of PC content at 1UP.com.
Jeff Green leaves 1UP/GFW for EA
"Unless Jeff Green has been credited in a game, I'm going to put this page forward for deletion."Way to ruin the goddamn mood MB. He probably has actually, being in the industry for so long.
And if he hasn't he will be soon when he gets to his new job. So actually, seeing as he is now a videogame professional, this page totally deserves to be here.
Anyways:
Thanks to some dude on the 1Up forums for posting that.
Sucks that he's leaving the Brodeo, I enjoyed listening to him on GFW Radio. I wonder what will happen now with him gone, will they continue with the podcast, change the name, etc?
And a response to the moderator who so harshly and bluntly put his statement to a farewell topic, Jeff Green is going to enter the industry to work on The Sims team, so I believe you should treat this like Greg K's and numerous others former journalists who went to work on the video game industry. Have some respect.

I wonder what will happen now with him gone, will they continue with the podcast, change the name, etc?Even Vinny doesn''t even have his own page here, and it was he who deleted it the first time, and it keeps getting put back up and getting deleted. The rules are in place for a reason...there just can't be a Wiki page for everyone in the industry you think is "cool" or has been around awhile. It's not about respect at all. I think Jeff is cool and I've enjoyed listening to him on podcasts over the years, this is a separate issue.

"These are the names that roll after you blow up that final boss. A person must be credited in at least one game to merit a page."
GFW Radio isn't just my favorite podcast, it's my favorite weekly entertainment period. This hasn't even sunk in fully for me yet, but I feel like I've fallen on my face, like the carpet has been ripped from underneath me. When I'm having a really bad day, it doesn't matter how bad, as soon as I hear "Hello and welcome to GFW Radio!" everything's cool. Of course, this isn't about me, or any of us, although Jeff certainly took us into consideration in his decision. I wish him the best at his new job and may actually pay attention to The Sims now ;). But seriously, dude HAS to guest at least occasionally.

But it will be weird to hear the dude schilling games as opposed to criticizing them.

"I think what would be best is to delete the page now perhaps and then have it added again once its made official?"I think what would be best would be to reconsider the one-sentance "rule" dictating what warrents a person having a page on this website. This guy isn't sweeping the floors at Konami. He's relevant to the industry and the single-sentance "rule" should be changed.
"Lies said:Lol. Hopefully he'll be cool and still have some community involvement like Navarro and Rorie and those ex-GS guys who are now working at game developers. I'm more worried for the Brodeo than I am for him. You need a strong host personality, and Shawn Elliot just won't do."Maybe he can take Rod Humble's spot as "Podcast emissary to 1Up". "Hamz said:Maybe, but for right now, that's the rule. Don't delete Jeff Green's page, unless you also delete Jeff Gerstmann's.
"My favorite podcast will never be the same. :("

We have a Jeff Gerstmann page, which game was he legitimately credited in?Jeff, Ryan & Brad were all credited in the Special Thanks section of Guitar Hero 2.

so is Ryan Davis, but go find your guitar hero 2 game manual, go to credits, search for thier names, nothing! My point stands; delete Jeff Green's page, delete their pages too. I'll go dig around some other GiantBomb staff people pages as well, find a legitmate credit for Jeff Gerstmann, Ryan Davis and the other giant bomb staff people pages and yeah, delete JUST Jeff Green's page, but if you can't find a legitimate credit for them; either keep Jeff Green's people page or delete ALL the Giant Bomb Staff People Pages.
Jeff Gerstmann and Ryan Davis were credited for giving airtime for guitar hero on the OnTheSpot segment for Guitar Hero 2, development? No. Leave the Greenmachine alone! Or go talk to whoever to get these gaming journalist enthusiast press people acceptance into the GiantBomb wiki, be a hero, take a stand, accept the professional unwashed masses we look up to! (outside the Giant Bomb staff!)
The reason a person appears in a game's credits is irrelevant.
Find me a published game that Jeff Green is credited in and the page stays. Otherwise,it goes. It can come back as soon as an upcoming game he works on is published and he appears in the credits. For the last time, this isn't about liking or disliking someone.
He's now working on the Sims franchise, that's a fact, so add that. Every article (VEIGN, IGN, 1UP, Armchair, NeoGAF are all saying he's working on The Sims franchise, even Wikipedia says it, he's on the development team according to all those websites. What else is needed? Not every single people page on this website has game manual credits, Jeff Green is working on The Sims franchise, done! Now keep the page.
"Vaxadrin said:I was actually thinking about the Rod Humble analogy. He was quite critical about many of the games he worked on (albeit they were all long released)."Lies said:Lol. "I think my avatar speaks for itself. He has all my <3 and support though. I hope he has a wonderful time at EA.">.< What type of person wishes someone the best for leaving! Get angry! Chain him to his desk (not that one on the 5th floor that kind of exploded or whatever) and force him to write, Ryan could take him for doggy walks on the weekend to exercise the muscles, Shawn could feed him Negro candy for energy.
By the way, either you're tiny or Jeff is Andre the Giant. Seriously though, it seems the Games for Windows magazine crew have gone on to greater things than Ziff Davis Media could offer; Sean Molloy at Blizzard, Jeff Green at EA, and before that some previous 1UP staff are now on the Resistance 2 development team, making their own DS games, how long are you going to be the community manager before Hello Kitty Online has a job opening? (cos girls don't play real games)
Girls don't play real games? God. How many times do I need to beat you before you get that thought out of your head? I guess I have to earn respect, pwning one boy at a time. =|
And I wouldn't want to guilt trip anyone into staying. He's been here for 17 years! Cut the man some slack.

17 years ago I was... 5 years old... Jeff Green needs to write a book or something, tome of knowledge and all that, crack his skull for all the juicy goodness it holds. Truth be told; I can't wait to see how he does at EA, in The Sims Studio, hopefully he'll help make the next SimCity game not suck as much as Societies.
