Jill Valentine is the original female protagonist of the Resident Evil franchise, as well as the main protagonist of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
Background
Before joining the S.T.A.R.S, Jill Valentine had a history with the Delta Force. It is believed that she had a history with Chris Redfield, though this is never specified in game.Resident Evil
In both versions of the intro, it is Jill who unsuccessfully attempts to save Joseph from the attacking Cerberus dogs before running into the mansion with the only real difference being that in the Gamecube version, she is saved by Chris from an impending dog attack instead of just running into the house. Once inside, Jill and Barry are dispatched by Wesker to Chris who has gone missing. While searching nearby, Jill and Barry run into a pool of blood, believed to be Chris', and the zombie that killed Kenneth Sullivan, Bravo Team's point man. Upon returning to the main hall, Wesker has disappeared leaving it up to Jill and Barry to explore the mansion on their own. This leads to many memorable situations including the infamous 'You were almost a Jill sandwich!' celing trap and the encounter with Lisa Trevor in the Gamecube version where Jill finally discovers Barry's hidden agenda. Now that her and Barry are officially on the same page, they trek further into the Mansion where they eventually come to the labs and discover that the whole ordeal was being orchestrated by their captain Albert Wesker. Following the battle with the Tyrant, Jill triggers the Mansion's self destruct sequence and manages to rescue Chris from his holding cell before escaping with him, Barry and Rebecca in Brad's helicopter.Following events
After escaping from the Mansion, the remaining S.T.A.R.S. returned to their base of operations in Raccoon City and immediately demanded an investigation into the operations of the Umbrella Corporation. Initially being refused by the chief of the RPD, the S.T.A.R.S. didn't take no for an answer and set off on their own journey. While Chris, Barry and Rebecca all went their separate ways, Jill stayed in Raccoon City to investigate the Mansion incident she had been through, believing there were still clues to be found.Resident Evil: Nemesis
However, on September 28th, the T-Virus outbreak managed to spread to Raccoon City itself. With the city overrun by zombies, escape became difficult, and so Jill intends to find Brad Vickers, the helicopter pilot from the original game, to have him fly her out of the infected city. However, soon after meeting, Brad is killed by the Nemesis, a B.O.W. created specifically with the task of wiping out all surviving S.T.A.R.S. members. Barely surviving herself, Jill now has to escape on her own with the Nemesis right on her tail at every turn. During one encounter with the monster, Jill is aided by Carlos Oliveira, a member of the U.B.C.S., Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service along with Mikhail Victor and Nicholai Ginovaef. During following encounters with the Nemesis, Mikhail is killed protecting Carlos and Jill and Jill becomes infected with the T-Virus itself. Thanks to the efforts of Carlos, she is cured and continues on her escape. Coming across another lab in the city, Jill explores only to run into Nicholai who turns out to be a traitor and wants Jill dead in order to collect a bounty. Before he can do this, the Nemesis arrives on the scene for another battle. During this encounter, if Jill selects to push the Nemesis off the bridge, he kills Nicholai while attempting to kill her. Continuing deeper into the labs, Jill finds a top-secret weapon which is powerful enough to mortally wound the Nemesis. Immediately after doing so, she jumps into a helicopter with Carlos and finally escapes Raccoon City, moments before it is completely destroyed by a nuclear strike.Later appearances
While it is known that Jill survived the Raccoon City incident, she has not featured in any other canonical Resident Evil games besides for a mission alongside Chris Redfield in Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles for Wii. However, her appearance was simply a recap of the original Resident Evil game, rather than a new adventure.Resident Evil 5
It is still unknown if Jill will be present in the newest installment of the series. However, Jill's gravestone with a date of death of 2006 was shown during the last few seconds of the 'Play God' trailer released during TGS 2008. Capcom has not yet revealed whether Jill has actually died.Appearances in other media
Jill Valentine made her first appearance in the Resident Evil films in the sequel, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, played by actress Sienna Guillory. Here she is presented as being suspended from S.T.A.R.S. following the death of her partner, Leon S. Kennedy. While the film is a loose adaptation of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, this character background with the other events of the film confirm that the game and film Resident Evil universes are definitely separate. Sienna did not return in the third film due to a scheduling conflict with Eragon and so Jill did not return either. In the novelisation of the movie, Jill was captured and interrogated by Federal Agents who sent her to San Francisco in order to help with the outbreak.Besides appearing in the films, Jill has had cameo appearances in other Capcom franchises including Marvel vs. Capcom 2, where she was a playable character and Under The Skin where she was a character that could be posessed by the protagonist.
