John Davison founded the website What They Play, described by the website as 'the family guide to video games' which provided editorial work that explained to parents the need to know about the controversial points about games which might appeal to a slightly more adolescent audience.
On September 24th, 2009, What They Play was sold to the IGN network and by the 6th of October that year, it was announced that Davison was to become the Executive Vice President of Content at GamePro magazine and its website.
Following his stint at GamePro magazine and its website, it was announced on August 18th, 2010 that he was leaving GamePro. It was revealed on September 7th, 2010 that he finished his first day at GameSpot. His position was the Vice President of Programming for Games and MetaCritic for CBS Interactive Inc. This position oversaw content for GameSpot, MetaCritc and GameFAQs. John Davison left CBS Interactive Inc. to join Red Robot Labs as the Director/GM of Content and Publishing.
According to an article in the New York times, John Davison will oversee the content for a new gaming website called Glixel. Glixel is a push in to the market by Wenner Media, the publisher of Rolling Stone Magazine.
