Jon Gravelli is an old-school Mafia boss and leader of the Gambetti Family.

Jon Gravelli is the leader of the Gambetti Family, a well connected and powerful Mafia crime syndicate. Since 2005, Gravelli has been a medical patient at the Schottler Medical Center in Liberty City for a disease which is never revealed ingame. After being sent to the medical center, he was charged with racketeering in 2006, though a trial had yet to take place when he first meets Niko Bellic. Gravelli was introduced to Niko by United Liberty Paper, who Gravelli refers to as a "mutual friend".

After Niko has made his choice as to either take revenge or go along with the deal, Gravelli passes away peacefully in his sleep.

Trivia

Jon Gravelli was born in 1923.
He took charge of the Gambetti Family in 1978 after it's original leader Sonny Cangelosi passed away.
He has a son named Jon Gravelli, Jr., though he has been disowned by his father for having an addiction to cocaine.
