Journey sets new records on PSN

I may now have to dust off the old PS3 and spend the next 3 months updating just so I can get my hands on Journey. According to the Playstation Blog Jenova Chen creative director of thatGameCompany triumphantly announces how their PSN exclusive title Journey is now the fastest selling game on the Playstation Store.

Personally this is great news, seeing creativity rewarded and that games like Call of Duty aren't the only best sellers. I've held off from watching too many videos on the game because whenever I plan on playing I want to be pleasantly surprised. Looks like an awesome game and will probably will win the prize of finally-getting-chris-to-turn-on-his-ps3-for-the-first-time-in-2012-award.

The first PS3 game I bought since LittleBigPlanet 2, so yeah. Fantastic little game, though, almost made me cry at one point!

Damn I'm actually very excited to give this a try, I'll take your word for it if it's that emotionally engaging.

I don't get the "emotional" aspect of it peopel keep talking about. at no point did I feel like crying or felt moved by what was happening. it was a neat little game and looked really great, but there was nothing suprising or moving about it to me what so ever.

@klimdeeni: Did you play with another person? Sticking with them?

I felt very moved. Not enough to cry by any means, but a certain attachment to my companion. I highly recommend it!

@Nottle: Other people came in and out. Didn't really connect with them or anything. I went at my own pace to enjoy the game at my speed, so people who were to fast went ahead, and to slow were left behind. the last few "levels" I think I was mostly solo. I don't see how having another dude next to mine would change the emotion of it though

Great, good for them. I really enjoyed Journey, it was a wonderful experience. While I didn't cry or anything, I did take some time to reflect on my life, future, etc. It's what I look for in a worthwhile artistic experience.

@klimdeeni: The person I had tagged along with me the entire time. I felt kind of in charge because I was able to figure things out quick an they could learn from example, there were a few times where my partner would find something and point it out. There were moments where I stopped and thought, this person really could be anyone but somehow we are having fun exploring this world together. I came to actually care about them and would wait for them whenever they fell a bit behind. The parts where your scarf can be ripped away made me more scared for my partner because I didn't want anything to happen to them.

The ending where you climb the mountain during the snow storm made me really just want to get up that damn mountain, but then I saw my partner fall, and then I did a second later. I was like "NOOO!" But then you feel happy because 2 seconds later your racing them up happy rainbow mountain.

Also mechanically the game is a bit deeper with a partner. If for some reason you want to reach a place that you normally couldn't just sing to eachother and gradually float up. You can fly infinitely across the dessert by singing to each other and if you have a decent sized scarf.

That is fucking terrific to hear, in the sea of studios closing and COD selling 29 billion copies in the first day, this news truly puts a smile on my face. Journey really pulled at my heart strings and I almost shed a man tear, damn onions.

Sony should pull out all the stops to try and secure thatgamecompany as a Sony owned studio.

@Nottle: I guess I could see that, but being moved to the point of tears? I don't totally get that. I get the attachment you can have towards the other player, and how specific points towards the end can be more emotional with someone you have been "journeying" with

Yeah, not tears for me either. But emotional on a level most multiplayer games don't really try to build towards. In most games when I'm playing with another person I'm never in fear for their well being. If anything happens we'll re-spawn or I can tell them what to do if they have trouble. Think about if you accidently got your partner caught by one of those monsters, the scarf they spent the entire game working on is shortened so much there is more guilt there than whoops Dom got shot better pick him up.

@Nottle well I definitely agree with that.
