Set in a futuristic Tokyo, JSRF follows a gang of J-pop inspired skaters and their efforts to fight an oppressive regime with music, urban mischief and cans upon cans of spray-paint.
Set sometime in the future, the story of Jet Set Radio Future revolves around futuristic Tokyo which is in control by a man named Gouji and his police force, also known as the Rokkaku police. The government is very strict, and several gangs, including the GG's, have decided to rebel against the oppressive government and fight back. Gameplay is similar to the original Jet Grind Radio. You'll take control of any character that you have in your gang and you must go around a level collecting spray cans. Yellow cans get you 1 spray while blue cans get you 5. You must then tag up the graffiti of other gang members. After you tag a certain amount of graffiti, you are done with the level. Some require you to fight a boss though.
Your gang is given information by a secret underground radio station called, "Jet Set Radio." The host, DJ Professor K, gives you clues and hints as to where to go and whats going on in futuristic Tokyo. Each mission is usually structured around going into a new stage and covering a rival gang's graffiti up with your own. The act of spraying graffiti has been revamped since the original game, instead of manually painting the graffiti, the player simply has to hold the right trigger to spray.
During the game, you'll generally fight the Rokkaku Police. In fact, that is the only thing you'll be fighting. To fight the soldiers, you must bump into them, causing them to fall, and you must spray them with graffiti until their health lowers. Some guards are tougher to take down, and thus you'll have to use a speed dash which is done by collecting 10 cans and pressing B. Bosses have more health than the soldiers so the soldiers will only take one can to take down while others will take several more cans to take them down.
The game features the same kind of cel-shading that it was well known for in the original game and it looks pretty well on the Xbox too. The game also has an amazing and quite lengthy soundtrack. The soundtrack adds up to about 30 songs ranging from various J-Pop artists and video game music artist such as BIS and Scapegoat Wax. JSRF also features a multiplayer mode which is only available to play locally. They have races, capture the flag, and various other games. All of these games can be played with up to 3 other players. As well as a multiplayer mode JSRF also features a robust graffiti editor allowing the player to create their own graffiti tags for use in the game. New graffiti designs can also be unlocked.

With the release of the Xbox 360, there were also some issues with Backwards Compatability. For example, owners of the game were fine and were able to play, however, the people who had it come with the Xbox and bundled with Sega GT 2002 could only play Sega GT and not Jet Set Radio Future. Microsoft eventually fixed the bug and added an update so now everybody can play their copy of Jet Set Radio Future.
