(By the way, I know this should have been a poll, but I'm a pretty new user, so I don't know how to make one, lol)

Tough one, have you played GTA 4 before?

Do you enjoy a realistic setting, or an over-the-top action sort of game?

Just cause 2 is WAY more fun.

If you don't own and havn't played GTA then go with that. If you want to make a poll in the future just click create new thread, then there should be a red button somewhere (I believe it's on the right) saying 'make a poll instead?'

from what ive played of just cause 2 (5 hours or so) i have to say it feels pretty clunky somehow... on the other hand you can pull of much more crazy stuff and the world is freaking huge 
 
i guess it depends on whether you want a cool story or just crazy sandbox epicness

You'll probably get more in the long run out of GTA and the Add Ons - the main Campaign is about 30hours and each add on about 10-15. In addition to three great stories you have the multiplayer game options. If you do get GTA play them in order, it will make more sense. Also then you won't get used to thing that were added later - better guns, better motorcycle balancing, and parachutes just to name a few.

I'm actually not sure GTA:IV holds up to todays standards, but your choice is over-the-top action or great story telling.

If your getting gta4 and expansions I think they are good and the better choice. I will play just cause demo today to see if the game is any good, I doubt it's better than the gta game technically.

GTA

I you've played any driving or action or open-world game after 2007, GTA IV is almost unplayable. The controls suck beyond belief. It was acceptable when it came out, but it is unplayable now. Go straight to JC2.

Just Cause 2 it is a much better game than GTA 4

just cause two it is awesome

I liked both quite a bit, but the edge goes to JC2. A lot of fun.

 just cause can be more fun, since its nonrealistic,  but GTA in my opinion is way better and you will get 50-60 hours of gameplay just from beating the game and dlc once, after beating it, theres still plenty of extra stuff to do in the campaign, also multiplayer

Well, what part about previous GTAs did you like the most?  If you chose the presentation, setting, and story then GTA IV.  If you had more fun randomly opening fire on cars and spawning tanks and shit Just Cause 2.  Both are great imo.

Which sounds better?
 
GTA - open world style game with a focus on stealing & driving cars
 or 
JC2 - open world style game with a focus on MAYHEM!!!

Gameplay was never GTAIV's strong-suit, but now that it's two years later, the issues with its controls really stand out; I'd say go with Just Cause 2, although even with that I'd suggest you just rent.

GTA IV was terrible. 
 
Just Cause 2 seems pretty fun.

I would say that GTA 4 is a great game in terms of storytelling even if the controls are a little janky.  You do get used to them after a while though.  I have not played much of Just Cause 2 but what I have played was pretty awesome.  I don't think you could go wrong with either choice.

I have played through GTA IV (one and a half time, plus TLAD), only played demo of JC2.
 
Just Cause 2 is much better from a gameplay point of view. I liked previous GTA:s because I just wanted to rampage and blow stuff up. This is not what GTA IV is. In GTA IV, Rockstar changed the direction dramatically, and went for story and cutscenes instead. From what I've seen, that is Just Cause 2:s weak point.
 
So, 
GTA IV if you like story.
Just Cause 2 if you like gameplay (and to blow shit up).

Basically:
 
GTAIV: If you want a strong narrative, and don't mind unintuitive controls and vehicle handling that (While I grew to love more than any other) takes some adjusting.
 
Just Cause 2: If you want to be a motherfucking secret agent, action hero, movie star, banging chicks and flying helicopters and shit.
 
Saints Row 2: If you loved GTA: VC and GTA: SA, this game is entirely for you. Buy it TWICE.

Everyone is claiming the controls in GTA IV are really janky, but I find the controls in Just Cause 2 to be just as awkward, if not moreso. There's definitely a learning curve to the way both games feel, but I actually think GTA is the more rewarding game. "Blowing shit up" is a pretty shallow premise for me, and it doesn't take long for me to grow tired of that sort of thing when it's not driven and justified by a strong narrative. It's the reason why I didn't like Crackdown--it's all sort of mindless and the idea of causing chaos just for the sake of causing chaos gets old pretty quickly. 
 
GTA, contrary to popular opinion, is the more dynamic game. The narrative aside, the game's physics engine is still relatively unmatched in the world of sandbox games, and I quite enjoy the driving controls (though, a lot of people take issue with the driving mechanics). The shooting is much more satisfying in GTA, the guns feel and sound better, and the targeting system allows you to be more accurate. The cover system is a bit weird, especially in indoor, cramped environments, but I'd take it over the hollow run-and-gun of Just Cause. 
 
GTA has its share of quirks, to be sure, and the game feels really "heavy"--everything has a lot of mass and weight. The physics dominate the gamespace. But there is always something to do, even beyond the simple notion of "I'm going to blow this crane up for the sake of it." Plus, like everyone has already mentioned, the narrative is a lot more interesting.

Grand Theft Auto IV. Easy choice.

I'm in the same boat.  I only want to buy one game - so either the GTA4 expansions for $40 or JC2.  The JC2 demo was a lot of fun and I liked GTA4 a lot, flaws aside.
 
I'm leaning to the GTA4 episodes.

Doesn't matter, it's a win-win situation in my opinion.

I am kinda surprised that Just cause 2 got so many votes. Ill have to give it a try

I'm going to suggest GTA 4. While I haven't played either of the expansions, GTA 4 is a stellar game. I have played Just Cause 2 for about 12 hours so far and it's starting to wear on me. It doesn't seem like it will have a lot of lasting appeal and I am going to probably end up putting it down for a while to play something else. I never felt that way with GTA 4 and I played through that entire game in less than a week.

Well... if you don't own GTAIV, and haven't played it, GTA4 will give you a much better value. People might say the graphics don't hold up (a hard argument to support), but GTA has multiplayer and a very good story, in addition to sandbox action.
