enslave the espers, which are creatures that can pass over their power of magic.  Kefka ruthlessly kills General Leo, who dies trying to defend the town of Thamasa from Kefka's invasion to seize any espers in the area.  He then uses his power to re-align the Warring Triad, the source of all the world's magic, thus nearly causing an apocalypse.  This changes the World of Balance into the World of Ruin.  Most of the world's population is wiped out.  Some the surivors join in the resistance against Kefka's reign, while others worship him.  During the final battle, Kefka, in a god-like state, reveals himself to be absolutely mad with power and shows a complete disregard for everything iving.  When Kefka is defeated the world starts to rebuild itself back to the way it was.
