So, who agrees with me that Kevin Conroy is the best Batman? Batman: The Animated Series is one of the greatest cartoon series of all time.  Batman: Arkham Asylum is easily the greatest Batman game of all time as well. Kevin Conroy plays Batman in both of these! I think we should all discuss how awesome The Animated Series is. Here, in its entirety, is The Laughing Fish episode -

I bought the entire series for my brother last year and we watched it all. I was surprised by how far they took things sometimes. I had to rewind it when Batman straight up started talking about a crackhouse. Like, he actually said "crackhouse". I was shocked!

This link takes you to a site that talks about all of the things The Animated Series got away with.

Also, this is one of the greatest things to come out of the cartoon. They are making fun of Joel Schumacher (you can read the details at the above link). You really only need to watch the first 22 seconds -

You're clearly in denial. We all know Adam West is the best Batman.

I've been getting TAS from netflix. Watched it off an on as a kid, and it's still absolutely awesome. I feel like as an adult, it's even more awesome, actually.

@Bellum: I know! It was actually pretty mature. I got so many more of the jokes and such as an adult that I wouldn't have appreciated as a kid.

I have never actually seen the show, but from the clips I have seen, I am truly amazed with how much straight up domestic abuse they got away with.

@HaltIamReptar: That isn't even close to the worst of it! The Joker takes shit pretty far.

@jadeskye:  Also, I don't know how they got past the censors with the pie scene:

Harley was an original creation for the animated series. The following is her origin story. What the following video doesn't show is that at the end Batman reveals everything the Joker told her was a complete lie. This was also the last episode of the series:

One of my favorite shows ever.  Conroy IS Batman to me, no question.

All of this Adam West talk reminds me of the Gray Ghost episode. :)

It's hard to believe what they got away with as a "kids show" in the early 90s. I grew up watching Batman: The Animated Series and I can't believe it's nearly 20 years old now. The series has aged very well and ofcourse, the excellent voice work is part of it.

Back on topic, Kevin Conroy is my favorite Batman but he wouldn't have existed had it not been for Adam West's charisma. I'll go with the more hilarious choice here :)

That's right! I totally forgot that Adam West appeared on The Animated Series as The Gray Ghost, Bruce Wayne's childhood hero -

The only cartoons I watch are Rugrats, Doug, Rocko's Modern Life,  Aaahh!!! Real Monsters , and Spongebob Squarepants. Not counting the countless anime I watch.

@PureRok: All of the cartoons you listed are great, but there is no reason why you can't enjoy Batman: The Animated Series as well. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest cartoons ever made, so you should at least check it out!

Those are pretty much all of the clips of TAS I've seen (when I first saw Harley Quinn's model for Akrham Asylum, I got curious).  Oh man, that show is messed up.

No doubt about that. It's generally regarded as the best animated seriesafter Simpsons.

Is there anything like this still on Cartoon Network or TV in general ? I know the "Dark Deco" style of the series kind of faded away after the 90's but I always found it more appealing than any other style of anime.

EDIT: Found this while browsing through Youtube. Cheesy but still awesome!

Here is a good example. The following is from a comic written by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, the writers of the Animated Series (with Paul Dini being the writer of Arkham Asylum). Fun fact: Paul Dini confirmed that Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn have a same-sex relationship going on. This is hinted at in The Animated Series and even more so in the comics written by Paul and Bruce -

Yeah, he totally nailed it, and I think he excelled in Arkham Asylum. The Batman from that game is not the whiny, emo, angsty Bale-bat, but the REAL Batman - the motherfucker with gadgets who happens to be a total asshole.

The last Scarecrow tape and his behaviour after apprehending Harley (with the "Yeah, I know" and the laugh when phoning Oracle) were just amazing.
